organics, where to start?

.. ok, so i've been a bit interested in switching over to organics, mostly for the simplicity of the way organics grow.. water only sounds like something i could really get behind..
so, i've been reading a bit up on some organic mixes, and jesu, tbh, it's all a bit over whelming for a newbie, well, to organics, like me.. anyone have a good book or site or anything that they could recommend to me as a starting point? i've been reading for what seems like ages now on organics, but idk, i'm just looking for a good starting point to get my feet wet, so any advice would be greatly appreciated..

well of course skunk.. i am just over bottled nutes pretty much, i like to think.. to me, organics still seem like an easier road then bottled nutes, and i wanna see about the taste of organics vs. say bottled, and the many other benefits of organics vs bottled..

Should check out a book called teaming with microbes. There is also a book by one of the authorsof that book called teaming with nutrients if you are so inclined, feel like the first one gives you a better grasp of whats going on in your soil.

i've also been reading a lot of the revs stuff, from skunk magazine..

First thing is first, start a compost bin and even more important start a worm bin!

I would start by reading the first couple pages on the rols thread. (Sticky in the organics section)

Then I would look at build a soil . Com and look into their coots mix with minerals. The site is awesome because it goes into detail of how much u will need for wtv size mix your going to start, takes the guess work out.

Also look into their build a box and order up a bunch of malted seeds for your enzyme teas!

Last but not least, do not, I repeat. Do not skimp out on your worm castings!

Also maybe TLO by the rev if you just want some base knowledge on soil amenents and different mixes. But teaming with microbes breaks down the soil food web and gives you a much greater understanding of the inner workings of organic IMO

dude i am asking some questions so i can try to understand your thoughts, i see no need for you to get defensive about it

please explain how organics will be easier than bottled nutes, from your own personal plan
if what you say makes sense i might give it a try myself
i am always looking to make this more simple

i guess you could just buy pre made organic soil like biobizz or foxfarms etc just add water
but is that not defeating the orignal purpose of doing it all your self and sourcing the raw ingredients, worm bins etc

i guess there is different degrees of organics

now, let's compare your first post, which i took to be negative and questioning my motives in wanting to try organics, and let's compare it to say natro's first post, where he was actually useful and gave me a good bit of advice, and some where to start..

asking someone to clarify their statements/beliefs/ideas is a perfectly normal part of comprehension within a conversation

Almost ironic, that the organic info is often more scientific than some of the stuff people make up in what I would expect to be more technical forums.

I hope you don't mind me saying, your comment about doing it "mostly for the simplicity" imho does sort of warrant skunkd0c's reply. Someone who says he's going to switch to hydro for bigger yields will receive similar questions I hope. Many organic growers don't grow organics for simplicity but to grow organics, it's often a goal (and hobby and work) by itself. There are indeed different degrees of organics, and for someone getting into organics I think it's good to be well aware of that especially if the goal is simplicity.

I'm doing a nearly-water-only run at the moment and apart from adding microbes and funghi from a bottle and some food for them (molasses) I don't make an effort as in brewing teas or making my own compost. Not saying that's pointless at all, just saying organics can be very simple. I do enjoy the simplicity of water-only and not measuring and controlling ppm/ph, at least for now while my plants are healthy.

The saying that there are as many grow methods as there are growers is probably something an organic grower made up, which I don't mean offense, my point is if you ask 10 organic growers you get 10 different answers. I'd ask @stowandgrow for a good and simple to maintain soil mix as "a good starting point to get my feet wet" and take it from there.

and it doesn't seem that you have much to offer either imvho.. when the other posters in this thread were kind enough to say, hey racer, check out this book or this book, and all you've attempted to do is make me look like an asshole.. i've got news for you skunk,, i don't need your help making me look like an asshole, i do that well enough on my own..
and when i said i was interested in organics for their simplicity, i was talking about the water only aspect, as that sounds pretty simple to me, no? christ on a stick..
