Double in height BS?

My mentor before my first grow told me that my plants would double in height during flower. That grow, my tallest plants were 3ft and barely added a foot during flower. Second grow the tallest started at 4 and barely made 5. Neither added much height at all after 3wks of flower with the harvest of these mainly indica plants averaging 67 days. Now, I do use MH bulb that I understand will cause less stretch than an HPS... and I am sure it is strain dependent. BUT It seems to me so far that this double/triple in height talk is BS and if it happened it would be grower error and hardly the standard people keep tossing around. What say you?

So you're using a MH light, which retards "stretch" to a degree, and you are growing mostly indica plants, which typically do not stretch much at all. I've had plants stretch about half of their height and plants that stretched nearly 3x their veg height.

This is your only experience, I take it? Put two and two together here and stop posting misinformation please.

You say an indica dom and mh,well that's why:),plus possibly maybe grower error and poor soil.
Most indicas will be short and stretch will be minimal.
Sativas and sat dom hybrids will stretch like crazy....more than half, even 3x:)

Hardly "misinformation" and the point of my post was an attempt to put "two and two together".
It was my observation and a question. You added nothing but a reiteration of the conditions that "I" already said were factors. On the other hand, your hearsay came devoid of facts. Please provide the details on your "3x" because without them you are the one adding confusion.

The burden of proof is on the person making extraordinary claims -- in this case, that would be you. Those of us who have actually grown pot before know that expecting a plant to stretch 1-3x its initial veg height in the first few weeks of flowering is common and perfectly normal. The more heavily sativa-leaning strains will stretch more typically and indica strains will stretch less. Use of MH bulbs and that spectrum range typically promote stouter growth with less internodal spacing, HPS typically promotes the opposite.

This is all very basic information.

Those "rules of thumb" on flower growth can be right, but are often not. If you think of all the variables involved, it is obviously impossible to come up with a rule that simplistic that will ever hold. Factor in dominant strain, length of veg, light intensity, light spectrum, and you get a lot of different outcomes.

I do rough estimates based on any strain information I can get from others, rate of growth during veg, and prior experience.

Ok, but also the purpose here was to differentiate because seldom (never, until now :) )have I seen the "your plants are gonna double in height" qualified...so it is THEY who seem to offer "misinformation by omission. No?

All i can say is this bitch lived up to the hype
2015-01-11 09.25.27 - 3x hype.jpg

while her sister hardly gained 20% height
2015-01-10 13.22.21 not so much.jpg

So while environmental factors might be able to help optimize internodal distances n reduce stretch, from my limited experience it also appears to be very much dependent on the strain.

all strain dependent, I recently grew a sativa that I flowered at 18" and it ended up to be six and a half feet tall. That was grown on the top of a hill in sunny CA. Had about 8-10" between growth nodes
I've also grown indicas that only increase 25-50% when triggered.
Sometimes people fall for the hydro store myth of cannabis not needing nitrogen during flowering, that will also slow it down.
I would say as a rule of thumb, it's wise to allow at least enough room for the plant to double when flowered. Unless you are growing from clone and you know what the strain already does.
I can tell you with 100% certainty that it has zero to do with grower error. You aren't going to grow a sativa start to finish under 3 ft tall.

I'm not even sure where you're trying to go with this. Your willful ignorance is annoying at best and dangerous at worst to someone who is looking for accurate information. You clearly have a serious case of confirmation bias here and are simply looking for someone to agree with you rather than considering the facts.

So far most of my strains have stretched twice their size, now to specify my nodes are less then an inch apart but that's because I keep my lights close! But yet flowering is just the best of all, long colas and tight nodes which means a nice harvest, I grow mh during veg and hps during flowering, but it all depends on the strain, I grew northern lights from nirvana and turn out indica so it barely stretched during flowering, in my opinion, you gotta try new strains, just my 2c.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
It can vary from strain, method grown, lights used, and additives. I prefer indicas and I use hps lights for flower. I get almost doubled in height when I grow my all indica or mostly indicas. usually 2-3 weeks veg-7-9 weeks flower. Sativa heavies I always get 2-3 times in height. I grow hydro and aero though so i get big bursts. I have used growth inhibitors like bush master and it stops upward growth in its tracks. Its not precise just a good general to follow for height worries.

U use mh to flower? If so, you're doing it wrong..

What's the question?
Does or can a plant double in height during the first 21 days of flower I think? Personally I don't always have a 'constant' grow so keep changing strains depending on what I can get from my pals, and some strains go nuts for 3 week whilst others are a bit lazy. Its interesting to see you keep on a Metal H to flower?

OK ,thank you for clearing that up for me. @bravedave yes a plant can double in size. Triple in size or not stretch to much.. sativas stretch more then indicas . you're complicating simplicity...stop thinking so much take a nap bro..Every plant is different like people. And get a hps light for flower....

Not going to bother with the Mensa members who don't understand the meaning of a question mark except to remind them what room they are in, but i would like to thank all who have provided the information that the question was wriiten to extract. At that, I seem to have had some success. Thanks guys.
