UV LIGHT ON DURING NIGHT DURING FLOWERING PERIOD THEORY!

I watched a video on youtube that said a grower had a UV light on during the night cyle of the flowering period to make the plant produce more THC! What im wondering is, can i do this with any uv light?

I think UV-B is the only UV spectrum that does anything beneficial for your plants. During the night cycle you say? Interesting.

Learn something new every day. Just because others aren't doing it doesn't mean it won't worl. I've been mulling the idea, and I can't think of any contraindications for using this type of light. Do you have an ed rosenthal book? Mine is packed away but he has a shit ton of info on light specifically...

DO NOT interrupt the dark cycle. Marijuana needs red and blue spectrum lights to grow, it needs 6500K (color temperature) light for vegging and 2700K light for flowering. UV light will just damage the plant. If you want to upgrade your bulbs, try a 1k. Still not satisfied, stick another 1k in so they overlap.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. If you were going to try it you would want a light that puts out UVB only, most UVB sources also put out UVA and a good deal of visible light on the blue end of the spectrum. I think it would be wiser to add the UVB during the light cycle like many of us do. You can put enough in there to burn them if you really wan to push it.

I use 10% uvb tanning bulbs. Others use 10% reptile uvb bulbs or Arcadia T5 UVB bulbs or medical UVB bulbs. All but maybe the medical bulbs will put out far more than just UVB.

Stick to the basics. 50-65 watts per square foot. Ventilation, and temp control. Steady and consistent feeding. That is what is going to give you stickier, fatter flowers. Don't believe everything you read or watch on the youtubes. Ask someone who's been here a while...

Anyone who doubts UVB should buy a $12 CFL 10% uvb reptile bulb and put it next to one plant in their grow. I would wager money that the whole room will be covered well in UVB on the next grow.

Do a side by side, and post your weight/potency. Otherwise it's still just a wager.

Ultraviolet (UV) light makes up a part of the light spectrum. The human eye cannot see ultraviolet light as it is shorter than visible light. This ultraviolet light can be harmful to people, animals (therefore obviously plants) when they are exposed to it over a long period of time. Fortunately, the clouds and the ozone are capable of deflecting enough of the UV radiation to where it is not too harmful.

Ultraviolet light affects message pathways that impact plant development, growth and metabolism, according to Washington State University. UV radiation reduces production rates of crops, which reduces the worldwide availability of food. That's just one reason why most of us are worried about global warming.

If your legal I will send you my $12 bulb to try. Can't do side-by-side anymore, whole room is rigged with Tanning bulbs after the CFL proved itself. I only place the wager because I am skeptical and the $12 CFL proved itself to me just on the obvious increase in trichomes (vs unexposed side of same plant/same cola) and the fact that all the exposed trichomes were pointing directly at the UVB bulb within days of being added in mid-flower.

Why place a wager if you are skeptical? How are you measuring your "increased trichome production"? I don't need your $12 dollar bulb. If I ever think I can get better quality/weight, I'll put my money on a sure thing and drop an overlapping 1k in my space, and pull twice the weight/potency than what you did.

I am an outdoor grower and have only had one unsuccessful indoor grow. I bring my plant inside at night because it gets cold and windy.
I hear that some growers will give there plants complete darkness for a few days before harvest. What if in those few days I give them uv light for about 6 hours a day and during that period of time? I think it sounds like a good way to get the plant to mature and get maximum potency

I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything. I am simply speaking from my own experience. Plenty of growers just starting out always seem to think that theres some cheap and easy fix to growing better flowers, but it's really only about having some simple knowledge about a few really simple things. It's a combination of good genetics, knowledge of how your particular strain likes to be fed, your temps, your ventilation, and IMO your medium. A $12 reptile bulb is not going to turn your 24 watt cfl grow into something fiery.
