I also sort of understand. I saw a documentary about it on PBS. It seems that pig roasts were probably a good strategy. But that was the 1930's and life in rural America was dull as shit. The Klan coming to town gave respite from the boredom. There was no free internet porn, no bittorrents, etc. Now there are.
