(4)CXB3070 & Meanwell HLG-185H-C1400B driver? Want to order tonight!! Need Input!

Hello all,

I have recently built a cxa3070 3K using a meanwell driver, as well as 4 Vero 10's. I love them and want to add more. With the CXBs coming out for a few bucks more, I am ready to pull the trigger.

I was thinking of adding
(2) CXB3590 3Ks @ $59.50 from Digikey
Meanwell HLG-185H-C1400B @ 64.95 from Jameco

Total = $183.95

I was thinking of running the LEDs in parallel so 72v @ ~.700A

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Oh and I would like to order from US only, no international shipping please. I am still waiting for a driver from China, its been over a month now lol I learned my lesson.

@SupraSPL I would like you to give your analysis on the setup, given I love the 3070 and driver combo you suggested.

I have that driver but not tested with 3590...i think is:
CXB3590-0000-000R0HCB30G
if i see the data is possible to run x2 with that driver...CXB3590.jpg

OK so if you loaded the HLG-185H-C1400 at only 72V, it would penalize the driver efficiency, but you could run them in series and probably be able to run up to 1050mA, get full driver efficiency and dim it as necessary. There may be a problem with availability of the CXB3590. Someone ordered 24 and they pushed the date back and promised to deliver only a handful if I recall. The best CXB with certain availability is the CXB2530 3K U2. Its efficiency is about equal to the CXA3070 3K AB, but cheaper/ PAR W.

I just looked and you are correct, I can get 2 cxb3070s shipped tomorrow though. I would want a different driver at that point though correct? No point in needing the voltage to go that high for 2 3070s?

Essentially I was hoping that setup would work for about 180 and shipped in a week or so. What are some suggestions you guys have for a budget of 150-180 for led driver combo? Not dead set on cree or Meanwell necessarily but I do love my current lamp, what would you buy with that money?

Thanks for the quick replies

Maybe keep that driver and buy 2-3 cxb3070s (can get 3 shipped) and run them in series. 108 v @ 1.4A ?
~150w for $203

on HLG-185H-C1400...B version with external dimm pot....you can put 3 of CXA3070 or CXB3070...
perfect match....

Ok. That makes sense lol I guess I could have thought about that for a minute first before posting lol I am just really excited to get this stuff ordered.
I was thinking of doing individual cPu heatsink/fan combos, but have thought about a larger passive heatsink with a fan blowing over it. I figured it's going to cost roughly 30 for the 3 heatsinks (if I go with the 3 cxb3070s), would it be cheaper to buy a large passive heatsink instead?

I do not know exactly in costs ... I prefer to use right size active cooling ...
is a choice dictated by several factors

The hlg 185 1400 will run 4 CXB3070...instead of only 3 cxa's.
They lowered the voltage of the cxb and now it is the true perfect fit for the hlg185h-c1400...maxes out efficiency and use of all the potential driver watts you pay for.

4 CXB3070s would be 144v, the driver says it runs up to 143v. Would that not be a problem?

You are using the test current voltage(36v and 1900ma).
When ran at 1400ma the Vf is under 35.75v(~35.59v)...and is literally the perfect match. Full voltage on the string is what drivers love.
Makes perfect sense. I think we have it folks

(4) CXB3070's 3K @ $46
HLG-185H-C1400B @ $64.95
(4) Alpine64 Heatsink/Fan @ $8.99

Total - $283.96 lol Pretty far off from $180 original budget but well worth it wouldn't you say?

1.4A * 35v = 49w each lamp

196w for $283.96, that good?

Figures right after I run 3 cxa's off a 1400 lol Besides the extra spread from having the extra cob, are they putting out that much more of the good stuff that I'm short changing my grow?

Well I wouldn't think you are running as efficient as me even with the differences in the CXAs and CXBs, just because you don't have a full load on the driver. I think maybe a different driver would have been ideal, hell go buy 4 CXBs for that driver and use the CXAs on something a little more matched

So I would say yes, short changing for that reason. You paid for something you can't take advantage of

Lol this is just my two cents
