I'm not sure what you are saying. You only have 1 public school ? or one charter school ? or one private school ?
1 public school choice given by my address. I could skirt around this by getting a P.O. Box somewhere else, but why should I have to bend the law to have a school choice?

what are the rest of the schools? Charter ?
No charter schools in my district, plenty in the county, but we are not within the imaginary boundary to attend. The only private school choices are Catholic, no thank you. Although the education is top notch at those schools, the trade off of religious indoctrination is not really worth it.

When I was in Dublin Ga, you could send your kid to any school within the county but you had to pay extra outside of your lines. The private school there was awful. From what I could tell in that area, you sent your kid to the Christian school as a status symbol. The school didn't even offer physics and the highest math was trig.

Eventually the teacher's unions will bend and online schools will take over (my opinion only of course). With the difference in technology today compared to yesterday, kids should be light years ahead of where we were.

Imagine a system that lets a kid learn at his own pace and progress when he's ready, not just when his age is appropriate. Doesn't that make a world of sense? In your eyes are all kids the same age the same? You don't have to answer, everyone knows the answer to that one, it's a resounding NO. Yet that's still how we teach. Why?

they do compete. Charter schools as well as private schools are the competition.
Charter schools still receive funding from tax dollars and not every citizen can afford private schooling.
No they don't compete. Stop lying. It's not "competition" when one competitor has their automatic funding paid for by others that you allege it competes against.

One reason why some people can't afford a private school, is the parents are already burdened with shouldering the cost of public schools whether they like it or not. I could offer other reasons, but you'll probably be too busy eating stolen oranges to read a more lengthy post.

How about you and me have a race? I'll hop on my trail bike and you strap this back pack of rocks on. Ready ,set ,go....oh look I won the competition.

every parent has the choice to abscond to an area with low to no property taxes and homeschool, or move to a high property tax area and use public schools.

people overwhelmingly choose the latter. they even vote for tax raises on themselves!

THE FREE MARKET HAS SPOKEN.

The part you fail to address or perhaps understand, is that when people vote for something, unless it is unanimous, some people did not chose what ever was voted on. In a free market that doesn't happen. You have no idea what a free market is.

Also, since not everybody votes, what may appear to be a majority is often not even a majority, not that a majority can make a thing wrong, magically right.

the thing you fail to understand is that everyone is free to vote or nto vote as they want, and time after time after time people overwhelmingly choose to vote for higher taxes on themselves rather than absconding to low or no property tax areas so that they can homeschool.

you know what that means, spaMBLA?

Please explain what you think a free market is and what the characteristics of it are. I bet you won't or if you attempt to it will be a miserable fail, laced with your usual turd stained conflations.

If people are free to vote and another person or group of persons vote then takes away their individual choice, the free market is not involved and has been stifled. Perhaps you are hearing voices, because in your example the tyranny of the majority is speaking, not a free market...Meathead.

for the Nth time, when everyone has the opportunity to move to a low/no property tax area and homeschool, or freely move to a higher property tax area and utilize public schools, then everyone has a free choice on how to educate their children.

that is as free as a market gets. everyone gets to choose high or low property tax, homeschool or public school.

they overwhelmingly choose public schools.

THE FREE MARKET HAS SPOKEN.

I said 200 private schools? Your lack of a good education is showing. I said 200 schools in my county but exactly 1 that allowed people in my area to attend.

Yeah, Detroit is a tiny tiny city.

Damn....

Btw, I asked you a question you ignored (again). Do you think the best way to teach a child is by age or by ability?

Plenty in the district, just 1 that my address could attend. If it works differently where you live then good, but that's how it is in MI.

So you agree we shouldn't be teaching by age and instead by ability. That's a start. You realize that you agree our entire premise of grades is flawed then. Why do you champion a flawed system? Wouldn't it be better to try to improve it instead of talking about how great it is?

Please tell me you are acting dumb on purpose just to irritate me.

I'll try one more time then slowly back away.

There were many schools within my district but I was only allowed to attend the one my address assigned me to. Your idea that there is a choice is not reality.
