tolerance:
a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, beliefs, practices, racial or ethnic origins, etc., differ from one's own; freedom from bigotry.
accept:
to take or receive (something offered); receive with approval or favor:
to accept a present; to accept a proposal.
2.
to agree or consent to; accede to:
to accept a treaty; to accept an apology.
See the difference. One is with consent, one is without. Why should I have to give consent to an action i find unfavorable? I will tolerate it as long as it does not directly affect me.
Man , i sound like someone else who always goes on about consent..

this is what america thinks:
Umm... Hello, Merriam-Webster... please tell me how the definition of Tolerance has changed so drastically? The Tolerance of a spark plug gap is plus or minus .010 inches... and the Tolerance of a resistor is generally plus or minus 5%... and the Tolerance of a piston cylinder gap is plus .002 inches... those are the TOLERANCE between what is ACCEPTABLE and what is UNACCEPTABLE. It is a measurable distance between right and wrong, good and bad, functional and broken... and in the human body, when one EXCEEDS THE TOLERANCE of the body's ability to process an ailment or a medication, THE BODY CEASES TO LIVE... NON-LIVING... DEAD... DECEASED. The same thing rings true in society... when behaviors, activities, or mindsets transition to the point where that society BREAKS DOWN, that is a BAD THING and society CEASES TO EXIST... that's called ANARCHY. TOLERANCE REQUIRES BOUNDARIES, or things break... so just because the Politically Correct agenda has transformed tolerance into a term of global acceptance, that does NOT fit the definition... no matter how anyone attempts to spin it.
- and - (guess there are others who see what i see)
I believe tolerance is a poor form of acceptance as it really isn't acceptance at all. Tolerate says I put up with you...I endure you, not I accept you as you are. Why would we encourage this attitude towards our fellow man? if you look at the definition and what it means, I would not teach this to my children; I would teach them acceptance of difference and a recognition that people do not have to be alike or like everything, but must treat everyone how they wish to be treated. (What human being would want someone to just put up with them???)
