auto-flower fieldtrips

Hi there evverbuddy. I'm a newbie in n. Ohio that started a berry Ryder 5 weeks ago. Its only about 10 inches and kind of stunty but its flowering and putting off quite a stink. Anyway I wonder if folks think this is a good idea...last few days its been a bit warmer like 45-55 I've been setting her out in the h morn in the woods in a black bucket to get some sun, then back in at 7 in the dark, then CFLs back on at midnight. So like 9 hours of outdoor light and 9 hours of cfl. So far she seems good with it but is this likely to help or hurt?

So you're attempting to manually control the photoperiod of an Auto?
Ah, the irony.

Autos are pointless, and are of inferior genetics as they relate to medicinal quality cannabis.

Since you're already manipulating the photoperiod, why not employ the technique on a superior specimen? In your case, simply bringing the plant inside in a dark vented room for roughly 12 hours per night( a lot of work)
Or better yet, just leaving aformentioned plant outside,
And even better still: leaving it outside, while at the same time, running a proper indoor setup?

Ditch the Autos

I call it the tag-team approach....utilize the sun when shining, if not let your artificial lights do the trick

I have found the girls love to sun tan while enjoy some fresh air, as they will bend right over to get more direct sun

As for auto's, they work great when you have limited summer months, more or less just "plug & play"

Well I'm not really trying to manipulate the photoperiod as much as just give it as much good light as I can, that's really the idea of using some sun. I kind of hear you on the auto though, I let the thing get a little rootbound and the whole thing wasn't much bigger than the size of my head when it started flowering. Hard to see this producing all that much, although I must say the field trips seem to have perked things up a bit and I could see using autos started right about now indoors and set out in May to flower under the sun and be done in June. I think that would have it's place.

temps have been pretty low I live in Ohio aswell I can't run mine outside without getting caught but I love your idea. we have had quite a few nice days n all I can think is how nice would it be to have my baby's in fesh air n sun. don't forget to vote for legalization. love Ohio but damn. did u start ur autos in there finishing pots I did n was a little nervous about overwatering thx for the read <3

I've actually transplanted pots twice. I let it get rootbound in the 5" pot it sprouted in and it started to do "the claw." Then I transplanted up to an 8" pot, and was surprised when I started seeing roots down at the bottom of that one within a week. So I went up to the 3 gal pot it's in now. Letting it get rootbound stunted things a week or two, but the 2nd transplant didn't set things back at all. I've heard people say not to transplant autos but it seemed perfectly resilient to me.

crap I'm using a 1.5 gal

If i was you i would just leave it in the closet with CFLS on 24/7. Add some more cfls if you think you need extra power.

I've heard that moving the plant around too much can stunt growth. Plus when you put it outside you expose it to all the dust particles in the air not to mention pests and all that.

Better to just leave it in your closet. ITs an autoflower so potency won't be super high either way. Genetics are probably optimized for indoor growing. And you'll get to keep your bag appeal.

I'm also using the tag-team approach. With CFLs. I'm curious what will happen when HID is brought into the equation. We'll see

I think it's a great idea what you're doing.

I've been surprised the in-and-out doesn't seem to phase it. Actually though, I've gotten a little leary trekking it in and out, just too much of me walking around with a weed plant in my hands, probably a bad policy. So now I've just gone ahead and set her outside in a permanent spot and will protect from frost if it happens. I have no doubt the cool is going to slow things but it will be interesting to see how much and what happens with this. I can get full sun in the woods right now.

it's about the same concept, just got to be careful with HID as they are powerful.....start off at about 18 inches away, then bring in closer once they get accustomed to the new HID light source

Yes, I've been informed of that before :P

Hey ISK... it looks to me like they like the CFLs a lot better than the sun. There could be other factors at play though... I usually keep em in the sun while I'm out

IMHO...nothing is better than sunshine, beats the crap out of CFL, LED, HID and/or anything else....nature rocks :)

case in point...just today I gave my plants a little fun in the sun.....look at this shameless whore bending over to suck as much sunlight as she can possibly gobble

how's she doing?
sorry for the delay, just been too busy.

Still flowering and trichomes are just barely starting to get cloudy. i think with the cooler temps the little lady just moved in slow motion, but that's not a bad thing, she's taken a longer time but has put on respectable bud growth which i didn't think would happen with the early stunting. She's overdue, I think we're on about day 75-80 and like I said almost all crystal clear trics. the trees are just barely starting to bud out now, so there's probably a week of really good sunshine left and she'll use it well. i think these are black locust trees and despite a couple days of high 70's and sun the canopy it's still completely open.

i actually think this could be a fairly useful strategy for some folks with marginal indoor conditions. she totally changed attitude when she got some real sun and wind. The cooler temps probably slowed things, but just judging how flowering progressed during inside stretches and out i think i've got a bigger harvest coming than if i kept her in.

btw this area is crawling with deer and they never gave her a sniff.
