A Harvest Question

Hey folks, Im 5 weeks into flowering but I have 8 different strains, 2 have a 7-8 week flower time, 3 have a 8-9 week flower time, 1 has a 9 week flower time, and 2 have a 9-10 week flower time. Could I have the earlier done stuff hung up in my room drying while the rest is still flowering? Or will the light from my 1000 watt HPS degrade THC?

You could use the space gained from harvesting a couple plants to build a little drying room (a cardboard box would do) and put in the flower room.

That'd work.

I hang mine from string. Or wire hangers. Or whatever the fuck I can, lol.

Is this your first grow? If so, you've done a hell of a job so far, judging by that pic.

Thanks man, its my second grow, my first was just a tiny little Sour Diesel clone in a one gallon pot that I grew under a couple T8 fixtures.

I prefer to hang the plants. I feel that a drying rack compresses the buds, and I like the home grown uncompressed look. I like my buds to look like they've never been touched by anybody but me, which they haven't. ;-)

Also, I've done it a couple different ways now... Cutting buds off the stem and throwing on a drying rack will, IME, dry the buds out way too fast. Leaving them on the stem will lengthen the dying process, which is usually preferable.

Buds that dry too quickly will be harsh, and break up into powder.

Hope that helps answer your questions!

Removing that moisture content is the first step to the cure. If you overdry the buds then you've already messed up the cure.

I hang on the stem till the sugar leaves are starting to crisp, then cut buds off and jar em, burping jars for at least a week.

Boveda 62's have made this process too easy for me...

Remember that you have no idea who I am and I could've totally just given you really shitty advice. I've seen bad advice ruin whole grows, take everything with a grain of salt.

Double check everything you're told. Do your own reading and research and come to your own conclusions.

Welcome to RIU!

Seriously though, all those plants underneath 1000w HPS? How high is that light hanging? You're doing just fine, just stay on course and you'll be harvesting shortly.

I always do extra research, thanks for the heads up though, I have 18 plants under the 1000 watt, its sitting about 3 1/2- 4 feet above the canopy, 2 Alien OG, 2 Kens GDP, 2 Cherry Pie, 3 Chemdog #4, 3 Dream Queen, 2 Jilly Bean, 2 J1, and 2 Grape Ape.

yes light will convert thc to cbd...and drying under light ...welll there is still chlorophyll in the buds n the leaves close by it...light falling on it will actually break down these chlorophyll trying to keep those budz alive as far as possible...it will turn yellow to brown....
thats why budz dried under sunlight turn brownish in colour n doesnt retain its flavour n properties....try drying it in a cool dry place with good ventillation to prevent molds ..
n by the way ..that is some killer grow my friend..i freeking envy u mahN!!...boomshankar!!
