It's like what the preacher said to his congregation, "Do as I say, not as I do." What a load of shit.My point exactly.
Pretty sure it's one of the commandments not to kill.

From what I hear you can do anything you want your whole life but as long as you repent and accept Jesus as your lord and saviour on your death bed you're all good. And that's not enough to get you into heaven? The game seems rigged to me.
That's alright. I appreciate the input. And, I agree with you about the foundation to any relationship should be based on trust (and therefore helping others is morally altruistic). And, please understand that it's not that I don't believe in Jesus Christ. It's just I care about other things. I think we both agree the world could certainly use some amount of miracles, but until then I'll put my faith in human beings.I believe it would be to help others as that is a foundation that most religions are based upon.
And then there's the God hates fags types who clearly don't understand even their own religion that is based on kindness and helping others. Well, I think that's what the message was supposed to be until people started killing people for not behaving the way they do or praying to whoever they do.
When did that start again? Oh never mind, I drifted off topic.
If you are totally not full of shit then we have a lot more in common than you think. Do you think you would of ever thought to do that as just a "normal human" or did an influence from some 2,000 year old novel influence your decision? Was it just your human side that was caring for that dude, or was it your relationship with god? Did religious guilt push you to react a certain way or was it just basic inherent humanism?I think I am a good person I try not to be mean and be civil I try and help anyone. I help people that have done me wrong. I have a soft heart for others. For example when I meet my ex to get my kid there is a guy that is always bumming and I finally told him to get his ass on. Well just the other day the same dude seen me at taco bell and came up again and he said he was hungry and needed to feed his kid so I took him to bilo spent 107 dollars took him to his trailer with the groceries I bought I him.

All you have still failed to answer my OP. What's more important? Your relationship with society or your relationship with god?
You answered. Kind of. Why do I need to live my life "based upon the teachings" to bring me closer to people? I think I'm pretty outspoken when it comes to "being a people". I've been a people, now, for 30 something years. Abstract as that may sound. Why is one instantly labeled "unhonest" and "not close to god" when they are realistic with certain situations? Like the fact that god is not real and that all religion is just a false sense of security for weaker minded people?I answered
Based upon the teachings, your relationship with the people brings you closer to God. Living your life based upon the teachings brings you closer to the people.
Naw I have no pressure or feel like the man above makes me do it or I do it to feel better about myself. I do it to give a hand to others. Southern Baptists have an easy answer; don't bother! Sin all week and then go to church on Sunday to be forgiven- so you can do it all over again next week!I have an honest question.
How many religious folk actually live their lives based upon their teachings and how many are hypocrites who preach all they can while keeping their demons secret?
I believe to each their own, but don't you dare preach to me if you can't even live up to your own preaching.
My relationship with the future. Mark Twain understood this better than most; he was a leading satirist of his day. He wrote much of his work for an audience he hoped would eventually come to be. He even wrote something he asked a university to keep secret for 100 years, due to a fear of reprisals against his family if his true feelings about organized religion got out. Hint; he was not a fan...All you have still failed to answer my OP. What's more important? Your relationship with society or your relationship with god?
"I didn't even read that book." I'm sorry but that is all I needed to hear.I may have misunderstood your intention then.
Are you not asking what would bring you closer to God? Whether it be being kind to people or reading the bible and attending church.
I answered with being kind to people as that's what the book teaches, however, who needs a book to teach them what kindness is?
Personally, I don't think many people would need to learn from a book how to be kind.
As per the teachings:
Being close to God will bring you closer to people via kindness and respect.
Being close to people via kindness and respect brings you closer to the teachings of the bible and therefore the God you're praying to.
Makes sense to me and I don't even read that book.
So if seeing things for your own eyes makes something truth, why blindly parade around spouting dogma that demonizes people who like to think for themselves or in other words "see things for themselves" (something you strongly advocate for)?Naw I have no pressure or feel like the man above makes me do it or I do it to feel better about myself. What an amazingly brilliant dude....My relationship with the future. Mark Twain understood this better than most; he was a leading satirist of his day. I think taking care of fuck ups on the street is way more important than a relationship with a deity. Don't you agree? What is more altruistic?
This is my first thread in S&S&P, so please, don't be gentle...
"I didn't even read that book." I'm sorry but that is all I needed to hear.
"How many religious folk actually live their lives based upon their teachings and how many are hypocrites who preach all they can while keeping their demons secret?" Remember when you said that a few hours ago? I respect your opinions, but that's all they are now. Opinions.
So if seeing things for your own eyes makes something truth, why blindly parade around spouting dogma that demonizes people who like to think for themselves or in other words "see things for themselves" (something you strongly advocate for)?

Fewer books, more good deeds. I think this is a reasonable standard to hold future messiahs to, don't you? When you offer yourself to help, you are closer to god then you know....jmo.
Cant have one without the other.
See now this is a response I can respect. It isn't full of testimony or self righteousness. It seems very honest. When you offer yourself to help, you are closer to god then you know....jmo.
Cant have one without the other.
You said that you haven't read -your book- (not my book)And with that, I've read all I need to.
You see, as soon as I say I don't read your book you get upset..
Bullshit, or why would I even engage with you about this sort of thing? We both know how this sort of thing can get out of hand. I am simply seeking the answer to a simple question. As soon as I mention I don't share the same belief or religion, you no longer think anything I have to say is warranted or worthy of discussion.
.
The most important thing is the freedom to believe what you want without others judging you, killing you, pushing you into a sense of false security while raping you of your cognitive functions. So you tell us, what's more important, your God, their God, or the people.
I never said I wasn't a hypocrite. I merely pointed out the basic dichotomy of your ideals. I am here seeking an answer to my simple question.Contradict yourself much?
That sounds great, in theory, but everything that I've been "taught" tells me that's not enough. I'm told that I need to "give my life to God", whatever in the hell that even means. When you offer yourself to help, you are closer to god then you know....jmo.
Cant have one without the other.
He's every bit as fake as the other guy. So I'll just stick with "Hail Me!".2 words here....
Hail Satan!
