I believe it would be to help others as that is a foundation that most religions are based upon.

I think I am a good person I try not to be mean and be civil I try and help anyone. I help people that have done me wrong. I have a soft heart for others. For example when I meet my ex to get my kid there is a guy that is always bumming and I finally told him to get his ass on. Well just the other day the same dude seen me at taco bell and came up again and he said he was hungry and needed to feed his kid so I took him to bilo spent 107 dollars took him to his trailer with the groceries I bought I him.

If you are totally not full of shit then we have a lot more in common than you think. Do you think you would of ever thought to do that as just a "normal human" or did an influence from some 2,000 year old novel influence your decision? Was it just your human side that was caring for that dude, or was it your relationship with god? Did religious guilt push you to react a certain way or was it just basic inherent humanism?

All you have still failed to answer my OP. What's more important? Your relationship with society or your relationship with god?

Based upon the teachings, your relationship with the people brings you closer to God. Living your life based upon the teachings brings you closer to the people.

So being closer to the people, all on your own without needing to be told by a novel would therefore bring you closer to gods teachings in more of an honest way.

You don't need a book to tell you how to be a good person.

You answered. Kind of. Why do I need to live my life "based upon the teachings" to bring me closer to people? I think I'm pretty outspoken when it comes to "being a people". I've been a people, now, for 30 something years. Abstract as that may sound. Why is one instantly labeled "unhonest" and "not close to god" when they are realistic with certain situations? Like the fact that god is not real and that all religion is just a false sense of security for weaker minded people?

Naw I have no pressure or feel like the man above makes me do it or I do it to feel better about myself. I do it to give a hand to others. I think if it was not for society and seeing with my own eyes things that I see ia what makes me me

How many religious folk actually live their lives based upon their teachings and how many are hypocrites who preach all they can while keeping their demons secret?

I believe to each their own, but don't you dare preach to me if you can't even live up to your own preaching.

Southern Baptists have an easy answer; don't bother! Sin all week and then go to church on Sunday to be forgiven- so you can do it all over again next week!

My relationship with the future. Mark Twain understood this better than most; he was a leading satirist of his day. He wrote much of his work for an audience he hoped would eventually come to be. He even wrote something he asked a university to keep secret for 100 years, due to a fear of reprisals against his family if his true feelings about organized religion got out. Hint; he was not a fan...
