Using Diatomaceous earth against thrips

Title should explain my situation pretty well, but to go into more detail, i noticed a few days ago some discoloration in my leafs. It was yellowish, almost shiny spots, soon following with little black dots on it. I did a tad bit of research and found out that its most likely thrips. My idea was to use the Diatomaceous earth method to get rid of them, spray the underside of the leaves, and top layer the soil with it to stop them from being able to go in or out without dying.

Anyone tried this? I'm nervous because I am on week 3 of bloom, the infestation is present, but so far not overwhelming. I removed maybe 10 water leafs once i knew for sure what it was, and cleaned my area well. All old vegetation is out, drainage catch is clean and dry. Just want to know if this method can work, and if its safe to use in flower. Thanks!

Are you gonna coat the leaves in it? No? So i doubt it. DE doesnt really do much ive noticed. Wanna buy half a 50 lb bag?

Any suggestions as to what I should do? Or should I just cut my losses and start over following a deep clean?
Well if your that close id say no, dont cut anything down. But as for little black dots on the leaves? Thrips arent black, nor are they tiny. Thrips are white and they can get pretty big. They look like little snakes when they move and they sit in on the top of the leaves. When you poke at them with a pencil theyll scurry away to another vien on the leaf. Thats where they like to hang out, in the veins on the top of the leaf.
The shitty thing about bigs is that most of the time they dont die from the wrong bugs poison. That shit from monterey is the only shit that ive seen work on thrips. I tried everything to kill them once and it didnt work. Three different treatments for two weeks straight did nothing. Finally the monterey took em out quick.
Make damn sure you have what you think you have and then yes, after harvest, and bug eradication do a deep clean.

I've had good luck with safer 3 in 1 during veg. Burnt tops of my plants tho.

Sns 203 I think root drench will do it too and spraying the shit out of them in veg.

If you're in flower.....well you can always set aside a couple hours and use a sponge to wipe leaves with sns but that blows and if you have a big grow not possible.

Doesn't mean they won't come back or you won't kill all of them. Just stepped outside of my work building and the bushes outside are crawling in aphids..... Bugs are everywhere.

DE is just to sprinkle on the dirt and leaves during flower.

Good luck.

I use diatomaceous earth for fungus gnats and although it did make a difference, they're still some in my garden. I read about putting play sand about an eighth to a quarter inch deep over the top of the soil to prevent them from entering or exiting the soil so I may try that as I'm a few days away from 12/12.
