Day 32

The babies are starting to grow up a bit, producing some moar foliage and the HPS in there, all are looking healthy except one of the LSD, which looked as if it had an Mg deficiency earlier. The leaves are definitely paler than they should be. Gave all of them a light dose of nutes.

I recently read a disappointing article from a PhD horticulturist at WSU, which basically states that there's no scientific evidence that compost tea is effective, and they don't recommend it :

Have any of you tried the gas lantern routine with success? It would definitely save power for veg/flower, and seems to be effective. @RM3 apparently uses it and he appears to produce some dank trees. But my question is would switching to that cycle from 20/4 in veg slow/stunt/stress the (hopeful) ladies?

Today three of the plants were up potted into ten gallon fabric pots. I used sunshine mix #4 and about 20% soil with added perlite as a growing medium. Probably should have added more perlite but it should be fine. The roots were pruned slightly, maybe a half inch, not really sure how far exactly to trim them. Next I added some mycorrhizae fungi to the roots for maximum plant vigor, drought tolerance, and disease resistance. All three plants were pot bound in their three gallon pots. Canopy temp is now around 90 degrees, which doesn't really concern me. Unfortunately had to ditch the HPS because the new corner oriented layout is important for better reflection, may as well use the reflective mylar walls.

I left the yellowing plant in a three gallon pot because it's stunted. Does anyone think I should bother uppotting it as well to save it or is it too late? I tried flushing it with six gallons of water and then adding micronutrients, and then added another dose of micros post 1 week. Kind of disappointing but perhaps it will survive or be a male so the pollen can be utilized for seedage.

Lookin' good man! That one in the back right looks like she'll put out for ya :-D which is that one?
was your 400 watt hps in an air cooled hood?
what's the tent size? 4x4? sorry if you already mentioned those things, just curious.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to do any root pruning at all when transplanting, because of the fabric pots.

Cant make out the stunted one. They look pretty good to me.

That is good to know re pruning, they were trimmed half an inch at the most so not too concerned about it.

Appreciate it! Hoping that it will assuming that it turns out to be a girl LOL. Maybe the LSD don't respond well to topping their growth was definitely stunted but they are still producing foliage. Tent is 4x4.
Also added the 400w back in at full power, it's on the far right of the tent and kind of side lighting but that's the only way to get it in with this layout without overheating. Reflector is a medium bat wing, I'm not going to invest in an air cooled as I plan on building an LED COB this spring.

The plan is to feed with Dyna-Gro 9-3-6 (thread is now wrongly titled, ha!) Going to water - water - feed repeat, then feel it out from there unless anyone has other suggestions?

From what I've been reading, the addition of mycorrhizae increases phosphorous uptake/availability in the growing medium through AM symbiosis. Hence, at least initially, I'll be using a fertilizer low in P.

On day 33 I flipped the lights to 12/1, aka "gas lantern routine. Ten days later the plants are unexpectedly showing preflowers, and yesterday I added another hour of light so it's 12/2. Not sure if I should just continue with this or go ahead and flip them to 12/12... Any advice would be awesome.

The yellowing LSD has turned to a healthy green after a couple doses of peters all purpose, initially it looked like an Mg def but then it turned to an N deficiency, and in hindsight the plant should have been fed earlier but I learned from it, Also the Kush was tied down as it was stretching from the HPS exposure, as was the LSD in 3 gallon pot. It's probably due to being much closer to the HPS than the other 2 LSD. 3 gallon plant was just suppercropped.

Apologies for the bad pics, ten gallon pots aren't dwarfing these so much anymore! The plant in front left is 28 inches wide, 17 tall. Planning on flipping late this month, and I just received some chocolate rain and a couple freebies of chocolate cheese from sannies shop in the Netherlands.. Had to send them cash but they were cheap. Also have some Mazar ready to go, gotta get my hands on some sativa seeds though.

they look ready for 12/12 to me!
Only problem is I'm going on a short vacation for thanksgiving, and I need to clone one of the plants to keep it going. The 10 gallon pots will be fine, but seedlings require frequent water/high humidity. Have you cloned in flower/late flower before with success? A clone is a clone so it would also have to revert back to veg once rooted.

Nice!
I'm considering getting a 315W LEC for my 2.5' x 2.5' x 5' space.
I know my height is a factor however I do have two fans. One in and one out and they push/pull from cool night air in garage.
I doubt if this LEC produces more heat than my Mars 900w LED. Opinion?

Growing autos or with training photos I think I can make it work. Opinion?

I've heard great things about this light and I can get one for just about $433 at local hydro store.

Thanks! Tonight ill flip em to flower, only problem I'm having in the tent is humidity, which can get up to about 80 percent during lights off. Temps are fine, canopy is around 80 (running an open tent) doubt that it produces much more heat than your led. Obviously your limiting factor is height, the unit is probably at least one foot tall when hung from the rigging it came with. Not sure about autos, haven't grown them and don't have any interest.

It is a great light, worst case it doesn't work out for you and you could take it back or sell it.

I bought one today.
I'm gonna try some White Widow autoflower seeds soon. Hopefully they stay short.

Yesterday morning the garden was thinned out a bit, removed several lame bottom shoots on each plant. Bulb was switched from 4200 to 3000k, there's only 5 inches left till the convenient ratchet ropes run out of space, so if the plants do their stretch stuff I may need to just tie it up with rope (safely) :eyesmoke: The new dehumidifier is up and running, its keeping humidity during lights off at a steady 55%, instead of damn near 100% in a sealed tent. Also brought in some leaves and cooked em to add as a mulch/top dressing for the hell of it.

what I've done with the LECs is get rid of the triangle shaped hooks at the top and just put rope ratchets in each one, safest way to do it IMO
of course, those things are damn expensive for what they actually are.
Broke my belt buckle a couple weeks ago and nobody's even noticed my rope ratchet belt yet :bigjoint:

@borbor, appreciate the photo, I'll rig something up in a similar fashion. Worst case scenario I'll just bend tops, the freebie branches won't tolerate it as they snap.. lol @ your ratchet belt, I bet most people don't even know what they are used for.

@GroErrLikewise, hopefully it will be the first successful grow!
Do you have any guesses for final yield assuming I don't screw anything up? Debating whether or not to add in the 400 hps once stretch is over
