So I added a second air pump and another stone to each bucket, but then did a ton of reading on undercurrent systems and decided that it did not need the extra air, so I just unplugged the air pump and left everything intact in case the primary pump failed for some reason, I could just use the second one. Well I did a water change out yesterday, decided to switch from zone to hydroguard, and today there was water leaking out through the unplugged air pump. Apparently it created a siphon! About 2 gal came out. I'm just happy it was not another bucket leak...

that happened to me... inbetween water changes i didnt realise that the water would work its way back. ruined my air pump had an intermittent fault i didnt know about and bam stopped working... root issues then took over from then on lol.

why the change from zone to hydroguard?

Zone was working great while the roots were still growing out of the net pot. I just noticed they were starting to get tan and the roots were not growing anymore, or not nearly as much. Everything up top looks awesome though. I read and read and read about undercurrent system, looked at several journals and came to the conclusion as many others have that zone was just not working as it should have. Anyway, I ran hydroguard for my first run after a root issue and everything turned out great, so I just reverted back to what I know worked. Roots are exploding again and everything is looking very good again. (Hydroguard + roots excel).
You can see in the image some tan roots vs white.

thats interesting mate, i used DM zone as i cant get hydoguard in the UK (i have used that before though)

it seems the roots and the bottom of the bucket are nice and white and towards the top they are more tanned.... i wonder if thats just because they are out of the water longer and where the roots are so big the airstone doesnt splash them as much with water... hydoguard is great though.

They were all turning tan. The new white roots are just covering up the tan ones. Good note though, new growth is coming out of the tan roots as well as plenty of new roots too.

I could dig CO. No oceans though so perhaps vacation home.

Though thats a shitty vacation area.

New England is nice...Has a mix of everything in a small area. Mountains and ocean. My favorite places.

Water's too fuckin' cold. I want a chunk of a nice quiet little island in the Caribbean or maybe the Philippines, someplace I can tie up my sailboat. Grow some jungle ganja.

I'll keep a place here in Colorado, too.
