My quest for a healthy diet..

Salads are fantastic and all but it doesn't equal healthy

You can work out all you want but if you don't actually eat properly you will fail

Forget literally everything you "know" about diets and health the majority of the information is wrong

What you need to do is eat for nutrition
That's whole foods with a variety of vegetables grains and proteins and little to no oils (ie veg oil ) and no processed foods

You should have a variety and plentiful diet of foods throughout the day
And a protein shake since you said you're including it

5-6 small meals per day
And sorry to say but limit your alcohol intake a 6 pack a day isn't going to do squat but make your life harder

and as dreadful as it is the key to being healthy is to start making your own food from scratch
This includes your salad dressings

Although time consuming if you do it Ina. Proper way it's pretty easy
Go to grocery store on off day and cook for your week and prep all your breakies and snacks for easy access so you make healthy choices not wrong on the go decisions
Example: cut up all your veggies and store them in individual serving size Tupperware containers and a side of hummus
( just an example of a snack)

If you're going to do smoothies cut up all the fruit and freeze them in individual ziplock bags for easy access

Make your own protein bars don't buy often those bars are nothig but a glorified candy bar
And speaking of being glorified don't get sucked into the market of "healthy" processed foods they are a marketing gimmick they aren't healthy and they do nothing to help you

I have a protein bar homemade recipe made out of various things if you're interested

As for cooking meals at home ease up on oils and butters
If you use margarine switch to real butter
Don't use ketchup or store salad dressings make your own
Cut back on sodium intake

Eating healthy and right takes time and major effort everything that's been taught to us is pretty much a load of bullshit
100 calorie snack cakes provide no nutritional value but are gimmicky ways people think they are eating healthy

Right now the world is on this gluten free protein craze
You don't need a shit ton of protein per day even in weight lifting if you're unsure of your specific protein needs you can use an online calendar
We as a so society over eat protein on a per meal basis

And if you don't have celiac gluten isn't your enemy although that doesn't mean go eat half a loaf of wonder bread eat whole grains or sprouted grain breads should you wish

And most of all raw vegetables they are your new best friend

and in the end don't forget to indulge on a snack here and there or a beer ultimately if you shut yourself out from things you are used to eating every single day you will rebound and go to town and not come back
It takes 22 days to break a habit they say but I think it's best if once a month you splurge on a pizza or whatever

please don't disregard my information simply based on me being a vegan I know a lot of people do on here and I have lots of knowledge on this and it's sad they miss out simply due to being ignorant about my own personal food choices
Thanks for your input, well I am cutting out red meat totally from my diet.. I read pork lion is healthier then chicken (which I don't know if it's red meat because it's white lol) But no more hamburgers and bacon.. I've know Kale and spinach is healthy.. Honestly I don't really eat very much processed foods that I know of.. I LOVE cheese!!! All cheeses, but I didn't buy any this time..

I really only eat Italian or Balsamic vinaigrette, so is it healthier to make myself using olive oil??? Or just no oil at all? And I would like your avocado dressing if you don't mind.. thanks for your input..

And I have cut down on the beer btw, I drank to much last night because it was my bday.. but since nellie and broke up I've been drinking 3 to 4 beers a day and sometimes have a bottle of wine instead of beer..

Ok maybe I should have explained better of what I am trying to accomplish..

I grew up tall and lanky, I didn't really start putting weight on until 25 or so..

My body can change weight pretty fast, I can literally drop or gain 10 pounds within a week..

So I got a beer belly I am trying to lose and build my chest, stomach and arms..

My buddy is a personal trainer and he said if I start lifting it will be easy to make nice gains with my size.. he said I'd be a beast..

So this is what I'm working with..
Hopefully in a couple months I'll have some impressive after photos..lol

So what kind of diet should I use? Or is healthy diet a healthy diet?

I'd also like to lose my double chin and fat cheeks lol

Cute little side note, is that my niece eats whatever she sees me eat. She is only 12 I got her eating all kinds of weird shit I eat.. Well the other night I was eating a kale salad and she asked if she could have some.. I said sure.. now she has been eating kale and spinach for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. It's all she wants lol.. I wouldn't touch spinach as a kid..

It takes two shakes of a lambs tail to make a balsamic dressing from stratch and much healthier
Ever read the back of the bottle of a store bought dressing ? none of that is real food nor healthy

You're going to have to limit your dairy intake
Think portion control and moderation with all the foods you eat

You said "what kinda diet do I need / want?"
The answer is none diets don't work

The key is nutrition
A variety of whole plant based foods , grains and proteins with little to no oils and zero processed foods

That is an extremely hard thing to accomplish realistically even the healthiest people eat a donut here and there lol
So don't get bogged down if you slip up and indulge
I find people who completely cut out everything fail miserably and don't come back ever

It's my bed time but I have a variety of recipes stored away I will inbox you
And perhaps some light reading material
I'll do it when I wake up in the morning

Mediterranean diet is good. Spanish life expectancy is very high with 82 yrs average for men and 86 for women. Seen 104 & 107 yr old women in fb recently.

Olive oil, fresh fish, siestas, and lots of fresh fruit and veg. The figures speak for themselves. I see all the old people taking exercise together in the morning. Social life in later life is KEY.

Get a pressure cooker, buy lentils chickpeas and beans, make sure twice a day you eat a big portion of them with some potatoes or rice or whatever and a salad with a bit of everything and lemon juice and olive oil and a few sprinkles of tumeric. Avoid meat if you can, trust me after a couple of months u feel the difference. Eat fruit when huingry in between meals.
Ive always got my own cooked frozen chickpeas and lentils so i never have the erm ive got food excuse so i best go get a kebab.
Once a week or so have a eat what u want day.
Look into indian and mexican cooking theyve got fucking tasty dishes to be made out of pulses.

Good luck!

Ok this is what I just bought from the grocery store.. I will go more organic soon..

CAM00426.jpg

@sunni I got salmon like you said..

I need to get some seeds and nuts, but I'll buy those tomorrow from a whole food store..

One thing I have noticed is my stool is solid, which is rare for me.. but I think that is good thing!

For dinner tonight, which is actually my breakfast. Is salmon, brown rice, sweet potatoes-with no butter and avocado..

Then I'll eat salads the rest of the night..

yea salmon has lots of nice digs for people who eat meat.

i like cumin, chili powder and salt and pepper sprinkled on my sweet potatoes.
i cut them up about half an inch thick i take maybe one teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
and i put the cut up sweet pots in a bowl than i put the oil on it and than i rub them down
i lay them flat out on a nice non stick baking tray at 350 for about 25-30 mins
and i sprinkle them with the spices.

you only need to get the dirty 5 for organic is your short on cash

oh ya you can for sure bake them, i bake mine. i just like them cut up into rounds personally
take a wee bit of extra virgin olive oil rub it on the skin outside of the sweet potato and sprinkle with a little pink himalayan salt , and than take a fork and poke one side like the "top"
bake it at 350 for about 30-40 minutes ON THE RACK poked holes side up (or you will be cleaning the inside of your oven tomorrow) , youll know when its done
cut it open and you can eat it from there.

oh im sorry im an idiot its the dirty dozen
whatever fuck it i cannot be held responsible to know all this LOL

+rep @sunni for recommending the salmon!
i spent 2000$ of my own money to take a course to become a certified holistic nutritionist
a big fancy title for i know my shit well enough to run a health food store.
im glad i took it because it has really helped me as a person understand whats in our food and how ot eat it our best benefit.
why i said in the beginning dont disregard my information solely based on being a vegan.
most people ignore my advice because they feel i will tell them not to eat meat. i do however highly advocate for a less meat consumption diet, but not all entirely if the person wants to eat meat, i just simple state you dont need it at every meal and snack thats over eating protein
and while yes i would prefer the world to stop torturing animals that is neither here nor there nor a subject i prefer to get into on riu because people come back with some dumbass comment like
"mm bacon"

@sunni nailed it, OD. Basically it's lean proteins, raw food whenever possible and no oils. Lots of dark green veg and nuts and while grains. Cut fats whenever possible, and incorporate avocado as your fat, it will help your body to better absorb the nutrients from the other foods.

When I taught classes on this shit at whole foods me and another chef helped to create their Health Starts Here program.

http://m.wholefoodsmarket.com/healthy-eating/health-starts-here

Check it out if you have a chance, there's recipes too, some may still be in there by yours truly.

One thing I'd like to add is that, I am not feeling hungry at all, I'm sick with the flu but feel great!?!? Even after only 4 days.. And also because of this diet two beers feels like 4 beers, that alone will save plenty of money.
