Bonjour
I have a home made box 105*105*215...3.5*3.5*7.2 inches(3.5*3.5*2.7 vegg & 3.5*3.5*4.5 bloom!) and a commercial 4*4*7 inches...for the first one no problem I could hang more than 200 pounds in it...it is all in 0.5mm aluminium bars...very solid and heavy...the other one I am not sure...it says 110 pound (50kg) max...I will have at max 4 × 2.5kg =10kg (24/25pound) plus 16 x 120mm fan maybe 2 pound max...I will put the extraction on the roof...so it will be 27 pounds...driver out...4/5 more with driver maybe...30/32pds is not so much!

Sooo when is someone forming the new DIY-centric/thoughtful-prefab-tolerant LED forum? (Not volunteering, I'm pretty useless when it comes to internetz)

As much as I love RIU it would be much more fun/efficient ;);-) to have a front page without a single Mars thread and all the useful stickies at our fingertips.

Two separate sections: one for guides/literature and one for discussion. I know its been mentioned before but I'll mention it again until it happens as I don't really use this forum for anything else!

@rollitup This should be a sticky imo

Here are a few pictures of my first 2 lights. I used the 5.88' profile, CXB3590 3500k CD and the HLG-185H-C1400B drivers. I added the external 100K pot to dim the lights and used standard electrical boxes from Lowes. For the 1st light, I used a single box to hold the power switch, 100K pot and all the Wago connectors. It was a pain to get everything to fit. So for the second light, I added an additional box. Much easier to wire.

I wanted to say thank you for all the support this forum provides. I would not been able to do a DIY build without the help of so many here, here are a few:

(REALSTYLES,SupraSPL,captainmorgan,Alesh,Littlejacob,TimFox,Growmau5,Rahz)

This is a passive design and each panel draws 204 watts from the wall and the heatsink is only warm to the touch! 2 Panels done and more to go. I am getting a lot better as I go. I think most anyone can do a DIY build with all the resources here!

Here are a few pics:

Thank you again to a great community!

Some pictures of my led fixture with 8xCBX3070 3000K AB bin Cree COBs. It's run at 1.4A (400W) using the standard Mean Well HLG-185H-C1400B.

The 8 COBs are distributed over a 1m2 surface (frame itself is about 80cm):

A COB mounted to a heat sink:

I also added four 730Nm (Osram OSSLON SSL 150) which switch on for 15 minutes around the time the lights switch off (5 minutes before and 10 after).

These FR leds are on the inside corner of the 4 COBs on the corner of the fixture. That positioned them in almost the right spot for an even distribution.

Lights out and FR leds on. Light distribution looks pretty even:

Today I finished cleaning up the harvest from my last run. It's a Chocolope from DNA Genetics:

Got 532 gram, so around 1.3g/W. Slightly less than the previous run (550g), but I had to rush the grow a little because I needed to vacate the place for inspection. This grow took 2 weeks less and I probably switched to 12/12 a bit too early.

Anyway, it's great weed again and growing it under these COBs is so much more of a joy than using HPS. Getting more pot using less electricity is a nice bonus too. I net around 100g extra using 40W less (compared to boosted 440W HPS).
