New hobby for old head.

New guy here. I've been reading my ass off. Sick of dealing with shady characters here in the Old South. Gonna try my hand at outdoor guerilla grow. Grew a few plants back in college. The best one was planted in a spot on top of a hill while burning one listening for turkeys. Just kicked the dirt around with my boot, thew down 3 seeds and lightly covered em. Didn't think about it again till deer season. Went back to find a 5 footer with a miniscule ount of bud. Sooo, pure luck has given the best results so far. And that was years ago.

So now to the task at hand... I have 5 fem ak47 seeds and 15 reg purple cindy. I have found 5 spots with 2 prepped holes each. I dug 3' wide by 2' deep holes. Ammended the existing soil with miracle grow potting mix that has extended release nutrients. I won't rely on this alone to keep the plants fed. I will add some chemical ferts along the way as needed. I know some don't like it, some do. Roughly half native soil, half mg. I also added lime as the soil is acidic in my area. A good hand full in each hole. I went around and gathered up rotting tree material in the area for mulch and covered the holes. I made chicken wire cages from some old material that was already rusty. Can't even see em if you aren't right over them.

The spots are spead out accross 40 acres in natural openings that are full of blackberry briars. The land was clear cut about 8 years ago and has planted pines and a mix of natural Hardwoods that came up. The trees are about 20' tall and its a pretty good thicket. No one in their right mind will be taking a stroll thru there. I estimate I'll have the minimum required 5-6 hours direct sunlight.

The pro and con is I am THE ONLY person running around on this place. So if it were to be found I'd be a prime suspect. However I don't wear tie dye shirts, or have dread locks, or say "man" every other sentence. So I don't necessary look the part. I think the only way they will be spotted is from the air and with the limited total numbers and small number per hidey hole, I feel safe enough. A calculated risk if you will.

Deer and rabbits are everywhere on this place. It is a big concern. I think the cages will keep the plants safe. An unknown is mice. Any of you in the South have trouble with mice? Any remedy?

I haven't germed any seeds yet. Will start this weekend as I have a guest in the house atm. I have jiffy organic seed starting mix for a starting medium. I have some tomato seeds I practiced with and they are looking great! Took about 4 days to sprout and now are 2 weeks old. I have a florescent shop light over my work bench in the shop that I have lowered over the tomatoes. I will do the same for the mj. Plan to veg till second week in April at home then out to the bush they go. I will acclimate them before transplanting to the ground.

Have I missed anything? Any advice at all would be great.

give them tricademia and mycorr while your vegging them to give them the best chance of surviving in wild soil, lol

maybe spray with a 6 week systemic a few days before your going to plant them outside

also cindy and ak are pretty fast you`ll want to check them around 60 days in to see when your cutting them down

Thanks for the tip. Never heard of those items. I'll definitely look it up.

There is a small natural spring I where I can retrieve water. When things get dry, as a general rule, how much water should I supply? 1 gallon per plant? 5 gallons? I have been looking for some water retention crystals but no luck yet at local stores. It's just getting spring time and inventory in the garden section is growing each week.

c-99 is fucking awsome for indoor but in my experince gets moldy outdoors . iwould ditch it for a better outdoor variety.
..best of luck .... for mice tye a cherrio to the mousetrap in ten-11 places .. it will shut them down quick

Purple Cindy is c-99 x opt. I think she will have the sativa properties I desire in my humid climate.

The cheerio and mousetrap sounds like a good deal.

Last year I was watering 45 gallon smart pots 10 gallons of water each twice a week.I hope your water source is close by because hauling water in sucks!!!

This morning (wed) 6 of 10 seeds are starting to break soil. Put directly in starting mix Sat evening. Can barely see the little white stems pushing dirt. Will start another 10 this weekend, maybe the next. Would like to stagger them a little for learning curve purposes.

You can't typically just move a plant from indoor lighting straight into 5 hours of sun. Typically the plants will droop when first subjected to sunlight for 1 to 3 hours. You need to shade them when they droop.. You can unshade them thst same day if they perk back up but otherwise don't. Depending on strain a couple days to a couple weeks of this will produce the protective wax they need to withstand direct sunlight..

Rabbits are a bitch.. Don't piss on your plants to protect them though, makes em taste like piss. Definitely discourage the rabbits... Deers I dunno about those..

9 of 10 have sprung from their shells. I am optimistic about #10. I think I can see a little bulge in the soil. I'm pretty pumped.

The tomatoe seedlings are doing well. They have spent the last 2 days outdoors. The wind was rough on them the first day. Gusty at times. Luckily I stopped by the house for lunch. The stems were all laying mostly horizontal. It was an oh shit moment. I added some more material to support their stalks and set up a board for a wind screen. They had perked back up by the time I got home from work. They get full morning and afternoon sun and from 12-:00-5:00ish they are in the shade. Thank you Mr live oak tree. Will introduce all day sun as they get stronger.

There is a sense of pride. Look at what I have created. I am all powerful. As I say that, a more humble thought comes to mind. I have done no magic. Life did not spring from my finger tips. I am merely a cultivator. Perhaps that's the true task , purpose, reason for living, the only thing worth putting effort into. Cultivating. My family. My relationships. My environment. Smh. That's some good ass weed Dano. This may not be the aha moment later when this wears off. But in this moment perhaps I've found meaning I had never considered. I'll ponder when less stoned. Till then I'll get about my day and cultivate.

It's official. 10 fer 10! Phase 1 complete.

My thoughts on urine...like anyone cares, but I'll share. I'm an avid bowhunter. I have spent many days in a tree with stick and string, a backpack with snacks, and numerous paraphernalia. I'm one of those that can spend all day in the tree. On occasion anyway when the time feels right. I used to piss in a bottle. Don't want that dreadful scent out in the air. Some years ago I read an article that said sure, a deer can smell urine. But piss is piss and there is nothing in it to distinguish predator or prey. Since then I let it hit the ground and pay no mind. I have peed while I watched deer 30 yrds away. Sometimes you just have to go. They paid no mind. My typical kill is less than 25 yards. I've had them so close you can hear them breathing. Much like a dog sniffing, except their nose is to the ground sniffing out acorns. Fresh piss 5 yards away. IMO urine as a deterrent is a myth.

Well a little hiccup in my doings. I started my seedlings in some rather small containers. The kind that are about 5" deep and 2 or 3" wide. You find flowers and mater's and the like in them. Kind of like a 6 pack. Anyway last night I decided some of the seedlings were getting a little stretchy and I should repot. So I did. It went smoothly. I left all the soil intact and I burried them up to the cotyledons. Well during the night the suckers stretched another 3" or so in the dark. Note to self. Don't repot the youngsters at night. I assume having light would have minimized this stretch and produced more desirable results. Will do differently next time.

It sounds like you are off to a good start, other than the stretchy seedlings. 3' X 2' holes are 105 gallons. That is plenty big. But wider is more important than deeper when you are trying to decide how much work to put into it. The roots grow out, not down.

Make sure you know which way is south when you are deciding if there is enough light for a hole. You can get an idea of how high in the sky the sun will be two days into Fall by looking at it today {2 days before Spring}.

And plants vegged under lights are tender. Last year I killed 16 of my 17 Chinese orange trees in one afternoon. They were under a big oak tree, but there was just enough late afternoon sun to fry them. Seedlings started outside can take the full sun though. I've only lost one to sunburn so far this year, and Hell Bitch {the cat} knocked the cup over and the white sprout was exposed.

My thoughts on urine is that it is almost the exact same chemical makeup as Blood Meal, and pee is free. Dilute it and use it as fertilizer.

All 10 are still aliveplus 5 tomato plants. I wouldn't call their growth vigorous but maybe there is lots going on under the soil right now. I'll try to get some pics uploaded tonight. I have them in a wagon that I can roll into the shop at night to protect from frost. Saturday I decided they needed full sun. My tomato seedlings got sunburned and some parts of the leaves are white. It was a combo of wind and sun I think. The mj looks fine though. They have been outside since they broke surface unlike the tomatoes which I had under a light for a spell. The mj has only one set of tiny leaves about the same size as the cotyledons right now. They seem a little scrunched up between the veins. Don't know what to make of this. Color is nice, maybe ever so slightly pale. Soil has not been watered, still feels kinda moist and the pots are getting lighter. Will probably be ready for water this afternoon.
