If you are hoping to pull a 1/2 elbow or more I would upgrade. I grew one in a 15 last year and got right at 10 zips after a couple of toppings and some tipping.

Gd answer..i grew my 1st plant in a 15 smart pot last year approx 6 oz max this year better strain and should be around 10-12 oz with the way its looking 2 or 3 weeks to go...

After my first experience last year I'm sold on the 15 gallon size if a guy has to keep the operation relatively small.

Yep im with you there..i only have a small space to grow say one in ground and 2 in 15 gallons..but one in a 15 gallon this year looks bigger yield wise than my one in ground so im happy with that....id like to say its a pounder but ill say 10 oz minimum at this stage depends how the bubblegum strain stacks up for density and weight i guess
 
Im going go use 15 gal on all future photos. I got a thc bomb photo in a 5 gal i guesd i could maybe transplant it. Its 1month old how will i know when to transplant to 15 gal?

If it were me I would simply use a narrow hand shovel and go in a circle around the plant 4-5 inches from the stalk (root system should still be relatively small). Then just kinda of pop it out best you can from underneath trying to hold it all together the best you can. Fill your 15 gallon pot up to the approximate height so as to have the plant depth where you want it. Fill in around the transplant and give it a good watering. I would do it so as to have the bottom node relatively close to the soil line.

This is why I always just start with cheap plastic grow bags haha, much rather cut it out instead of disturbing the roots and flipping the plant upside down. Idk why I've never liked the idea of messing with the roots even though they say you should shake them up to free them before transplanting.

Noooo doubt !....that shit bothers the hell outa me...I don't even like turning them upside town..I usually let em dry out really food then split the sides with something....very carefully.....but never a 5 gal bucket made of haRd plastic...the cheap ass think plastic ones are the shit

I only start my seedlins in say 2 gallon pots hard plastic then they go from there to final spot but im an aussie we do things backwards but it works for me

That's what I started my babies in this year is 2 gallons, I think that should be good for 4-5 weeks of veg before I transplant them into their final 50 gallon smart pots.

For some of my holes I have to wait until after huckleberry season. I know my cousins will be all over that land when they start getting ripe. But I have my holes dig, all I have to do is transplant the plants in when it's safe. Those are kind of exposed anyway. Waiting a little longer on them is not a bad thing.

You can cut a slot in the cover to a plastic storage tub. Slide the stalk into the slot, then slowly turn it over. If the plant is not too tall, you can sit it upside down on the storage tub. Pull the pot off and gently turn it back over and place in the hole. It can be done with one person, but an extra set of hands is always handy.
 
I have all of mine in solo cups and a fee in 1 gal pots..hard plastic...IL take them from the solo cups soon to the gal pots or I might just order 3 or 5 gal pots ...I like to get the roots right to the outside of the pot before they start getting too wrapped around the the outer perimeter of the soil of course...I should probably let it get a better rootball than what I usually do but I get too pariniod that it will stunt the plant because the roots want to expand and just circle instead of stretch ...tbh I would probably want to transplant one of my plants in about a week but I'm prob not gonna be able to...it's a bag seed plant but this fucker is growing like.....A WEED

What I will be doing is digging the holes and filling them with soil and letting them set for 4 or 5 days. Curious critters tend to dig around the first day or two and leave them alone after that. I put up fishing line around the perimeter then to keep the deer out for the first couple of weeks or so. Would be nice to have them dug and prepared much sooner but I feel more at ease leaving the area undisturbed until the mushroom hunters have faded out.
