h2o2, bleach, physan 20, pool shock (clear rez) or any others i didn't mention? currently using 29% h2o2 and I'm not really worried about price I'm just looking for whats best. i feel like pool shock would be the best because it specifically made to kill shit in water and i actually have a slight algae problem. any thoughts?

DM Zone, UC roots (pool shock). Personally I use hydroguard though. (beneficial). If I do go sterile, I would go the UC roots/pool shock route.

HTH pool shock is the shit, there is thread about it here on RIU with some kick ass information.

I've also heard nothing but good reviews about Pythoff, people have been using it with great success (for preventing and treating), I've ordered it and will start using it soon. The problem is, is that it's basically chloramine and water and the price is a bit high (but they can be bought seperately at a very low cost) but sod it. If it works then I'll be more than happy.

H202 is also kick ass, people cry about ti sometimes, but I'm betting they never even tried it out. it's not poisonous to your plants and does well. Some even cured root rot with it, but that is rare.

Is this for a "clean up" or something you want to add to your nutrient solution?

Don't forget hydrogen peroxide will oxidize and destroy things. We use phoshphites and chitosan in our nutrient line. They are expensive and work wonders. Hydrogen Peroxide will destroy them both. Same goes with kelp, humics etc. A water chiller would be a wise investment :)

Pool shock..calcium hypochlorite...is the most economical by far. It also adds calcium. If you have hard water, bleach...sodium hypochlorite...would be the way to go.

Both are chlorine, pool shock is just much more concentrated.

thanks guys and I'm going all sterile, no organics or bennies and i am also using r.o water and this is a preventative, although my roots aren't exactly in the best shape. but it seems like poolshock and h2o2 are best, which would you guys choose if money wasn't a factor? and i never heard about the calcium in poolshock i wonder if that would have adverse affects on the lucas formula that I'm currently using. the thing with h2o2 is i still get some slimey gooey/snotty clear shit in the res unless I'm adding like every other day because my res isn't covered but i also don't mind adding every other day if need be I'm just saying

Hmm... 3% h202 is cheap as fuck and can be used as a preventative (helped me get rid of this horrible smell in my reservoir) Here is an interesting read and a good guide on how much to use and how much to add back each day https://forum.grasscity.com/threads/using-hydrogen-peroxide-to-treat-and-prevent-root-rot.707074/

Anyway, I would go with the Calcium Hypochlorite, it's used worldwide for seterelization purposes in well water, swimming pools etc. There is a thread on RIU about it and calculating the amount needed.

Beneficial bacteria is definitely on my to-do list, but for now I'll be keeping things dead, seems easy enough and it works.

yeah it is, like i said I'm not worried about price but it would be nice to use something that lasts longer so i can go camping and shit in the summer but alright I'm going to look for the thread like i said I'm just a bit cautious about the calcium fuckin with the lucas formula but other than that id much rather use poolshock because its obviously guaranteed to keep shit clean
