make sense.A 600cfm with reduced speed would be a pro move to achieve 250cfm, quieter than a 250cfm on full speed.
Not that its the same but for 432 watts of t5 I use 200 cfm 4in fan.it has come up to the 2 year mark and its time to get a new inline atm i have a 400cfm for a 600w hps just wondering how low can i go would a 250cfm pull the heat out or could we go lower let me no guys what use think

Half speed on a 600cfm is probably less than 300cfm and most variacs like mine shouldnt go much below half speed, stalling a fan will cause damage and probably why you dont want to run at too slow a speed. A variac will be better than thosr cheap speed controllers which can shorten your fan life. Also if you run the fan on the exhaust side you need to make sure it dosent get too hot which is another problem for inlines.I've always been taught you should never control then below 50% and even that's pushing it. It damages the fan.
