"Basketball legend Michael Jordan has finally “broken his silence”, speaking about and condemning the gun related violence occurring in the United States. Just today, the former Chicago Bulls star pledged $2 million of his money to promote community policing and support reforms.

He hopes to build mutual respect and trust between the public and law enforcement after all the violent clashes occurring. Jordan also says “As a proud American , I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers”.
what a legend!

Even Jordan's teammates described him as an asshole and a monster. He was a very petty, insecure, and controlling person (remember the Hall of Fame speech?). Many people who are the world's best at something share these traits, it's a common reason that they are in the #1 spot. It doesn't take anything away from him as a player, he was a god. But, you wouldn't have wanted to spend a lot of time around him on a personal level...

ESPN recently did a pretty great 8 hour documentary on OJ.

At one point Al Cowlings was being interviewed about how OJ turned his back on the black community and was only hanging out with rich white guys. He asked OJ what he was doing hanging out with all these rich white people who were only interested in him because he was OJ. OJ just smiled and said "But I am OJ" and went back to his golf game.

Michael Jordan is of the same vein. He has ignored any social or political issues for fear that they would diminish his pay from endorsement deals.

Even now, I think MJ only cares about himself. He probably just put his very talented finger up and realized that it was safe to support his own people.

The man is a wizard in sport but a social and moral minor-leaguer. He's a coward.

His own people. well first his own people are the human race...I agree that now that he does not have to derive his salary from the human race, that he feels he can more liberally speak what he wants to, but that does point to his character for sure... so I agree with you Uncle...

I don't take my cues about ethical behavior from professional athletes any more than I look to politicians as pillars of morality.

He did good. Today.
