I've been wanting to hang a plant upside down and grow it like tomatos. I've herd good things about what it does for tomato plants. I do if that helps you in any way what so ever but i think it's a cool concept.
Yay Im planning on doing that in the future once I find the strains right for me, I want to have a little tent with bonsai moms maybe just 2 and the babies there with them... sucks I got a 12 month lease in a lil cribbo with my sister and space is meh so all this is in my room lol thats why I want to spend 3 months and get a good yield and just chill incase I get visitors later... SOG vs vertical growing is where im at now..Sea of green is about as quick as it gets, takes about 3 months for the first harvest with the growing of the mommas and 2 or less depending on the strains flowering time afterwards, I pull a harvest every 50 ish days with it.
That might might be aeroponics... some really kick ass im not to big and savvy on how it works but I know the room has to be stupid clean and almost 99% humid or somewhere up there.. you do get good quality fruits and what not, its a mist that feeds the roots I believe its a big tripI've been wanting to hang a plant upside down and grow it like tomatos. I wouldn't try it because I prefer larger plants and lower plant count. Vertical planters always seem to be full of small plants & lots of them. That doesn't mean you couldn't make it work for your situation.Since space is a issue whats your point of view on vertical growing? It does sound interesting
some of the best vert growers grow big plantsI wouldn't try it because I prefer larger plants and lower plant count. Vertical planters always seem to be full of small plants & lots of them. That doesn't mean you couldn't make it work for your situation.
Not to throw you for a loop but IMO nutes and coco work best in a sog or in a vertical where you've lots of small size plants. Then you could do a drip system or something to make it less onerous watering all of them.
I really want to steer you towards organics but that may not be the best for you if you are planning to have a high plant count. A 3x3 tent isn't going to fit that many plants anyway so I still think one or 2 at a time would be easier to manage; even in a scrog. In that case organic soil would work well.
Aeroponics is probably the best way to do hydro but it's not as hard as it looks. You can DIY a unit from materials found at Home Depot; I used to run aero before I went organic & it surely has advantages over standard grow methods but you've got to keep buying nutrients. Once I tasted organic bud I realized that synthetic nutes affects the flavor of your weed even if you flush for weeks before harvesting. Now I just water them the whole grow as needed & spin the plants daily. No more checking ph/ppms or buying expensive bottles of crap from the hydro store guy. It just fits better into my own lifestyle and I prefer the taste but if you want to learn about aero go check out stinkbuds thread in the hydro section; it's a sticky that btw has been going a long time supposedly the longest thread on hydroponics in recorded history or something like that. I've seen vertical gardens with those pillar style planters; very high end stuff though & very cool way to grow but the op has a 3x3 tent so I envision lots of plants in tiny pouches hung in the walls...,some of the best vert growers grow big plants
lights in the middle, plants around it, if you turn the plants daily you can get "top" buds all the way around the plant
See unless your making cookies or oil, people talk about gpw but lets be honest Big, fat, sticky easy to trip top bud is what we want to yield who wants to trim pop corn for hours ? you could spend that time better
I mean vert to a lot of people used to mean hanging a 600/1000w hps bare bulb vertical in the middle of 2 to 8 plants
Or you can use the walls to hold rockwall or use a 360 degree planting garden but theses kinda set ups need space around them so you can tune them and make then work properly as if the watering system fucks up you`ll lose everything fast
Thats why I really want to go organic because I love that shit.. im in AZ so cali pumps packs to us and man when I get some crazy gas from there Its usually the organic stuff that just blows me away. I see now.. it really is a tough call so many factors that lead to other things that put me in another starting point... scrog sounds fun with 4 5 gallons but then I would have to veg a bit im sure...I wouldn't try it because I prefer larger plants and lower plant count. Ive seen that around to and it looks crazy cool but alas I wont have that space... when my lease ends im going to def try to find a house with a garage or atleast some extra space for the hobbyI've seen vertical gardens with those pillar style planters; very high end stuff though & very cool way to grow but the op has a 3x3 tent so I envision lots of plants in tiny pouches hung in the walls...,
It's true MH typically throws less lumens than an HPS but a MH is fine and better for vegging IMO; there's that not much difference in yields from an HPS and some growers say it's a more natural spectrum...get a digital ballast that can fire either so you could get an HPS later on down the road. Get everything separate over time as you need it and wait until you can afford what you need. Buying a kit is not always the best price and they usually include junk accessories like crappy timers & yoyos that will break after a few months of use. Check out eBay I've found the best deals there.Little update of whats in my head...
did some homework at work... ( whoah )
Fuck that kit! 3 x 3 600w for $479.12
Was on amazon and found what the kit included only in a 4 x 4 plus a MH bulb for around $400
I was looking around for a 4 x 4 600w kit but that one ran for $662..
in a nuttshell I will be buying my kit little by little starting with the tent, hood and light. I have the money to drop it all but I want to take it slow incase I run into any real life situations... im still barley paying for my utility deposits so I need spare cash ( dont we all )... thats just a quick update im planning on buying a 4 x 4 tent and 600w ballast kit tht includes a MH & HPS bulb.. do MH bulbs always put off less lumens? In these kits the MH bulbs usually around 45k lumens and the HPS bulb is like 80k lumens.. pretty happy I can start slowly I can get down again sooner than I thought! But I do also need seeds -.-
Really appreciate you for taking your time running all this through with me.. and most def im going to get the true essentials and work with what I got so I wont be strapped for cash, I take it you've been doing this for a while.. and one thing im wondering now is do you think the electric company would think its funny if my place just goes up a couple hundred watts? Ive grown indoors before but it was with a 600w light and fans it was more like a 4 bulb ty putting out like 208w so I didnt trip much. I just dont want someone at that end thinking somethings up. That and is shipping stuff and beans to the location okay? Im sure I can ship to a friends but is it something to even worry about? It's true MH typically throws less lumens than an HPS but a MH is fine and better for vegging IMO; there's that not much difference in yields from an HPS and some growers say it's a more natural spectrum...get a digital ballast that can fire either so you could get an HPS later on down the road. A quality hood will go far in distributing the light evenly & can use any wattage bulb. Honestly if you are on a shoestring budget consider opting for a 400w which maybe won't give the same yield but you'll still get enough bud to hold you until the next harvest. Then you can upgrade to a 600w bulb and ballast when you get enough dough.
Having 2 or more grow areas helps a lot to keep yourself in the dank and makes timing it easier. You only need a small area for clones and/or seedlings and you can use flourescents for veg which are cool and effective to get tight nodes when plants are still small.
You need a tent and a vented hood with filtration or your sister will kick you out once the plants get to size from the stank. Get that first then focus on the ballast & bulb; you could even get away with a T5 or some cfls to get your grow started and aquire an hid by the time they are ready to flower.
I suggest keeping it simple and not trying to get a huge yield in a short amount of time. Instead just get femmed seeds of the strain of your choice and pop 2-4 at a time; that's all I would ever put in a 3' or 4' square tent. Get some decent soil and then just water them. That is the cheapest way to get started IMO ; speed comes with experience and when you've got all you need already. Once you begin flowering get more plants going in another small space so they are quickly ready for flowering or for a short veg once you chop.

Hmmm sounds good lol practical asf thanks man and I will be following! The power company doesn't give a fuck just pay your bills and neither does the postal service. I've been getting all kinds of stuff sent to my home for years nobody has a clue not do they even care. I am friendly with all my neighbors & they have no idea I grow. All my freinds that smoke know I grow and they don't care either & I even got a few of them to grow too so I sell them clones super cheap and we trade off on bud; It is a win win...try not to get all paranoid & freak out every time a cop rolls by or you see a helicopter fly by but you will just keep everything on the down low & you'll be fine. Keep your household peaceful; most ppl get busted cause something bad happens like an argument and then somebody calls the police.
Your power bill is gonna go up by how much idk but it will still be cheaper than what you are spending on street bud. Do yourself a favor & only order high quality genetics; not that you have to spend a lot either just get proven strains you know are good so you only need to order once. Then clone the fuck out of them. Take your time and get what you need slowly no rush patience patience patience is the key. Good luck & check out my thread in the organic section if you want to see what I've grown:

Thanks for all the detailed info! Im going to try soil facts first but that mist system looks crazy interesting and fun to learn especially since ive never tried learning areo ( intimidating asf to me ) and yeah vertical growing is just a idea I just might go with scrog in 9 5 gallons because im not trying to spend over 100$ on seeds untill I can find a strain a like alot to turn into a mom so scrog it is I guess... where im at right now is debating breeders beans and which strains to go for. Im looking for the high yielder and somewhat good potency, I understand in most cases its either or but Im trying my best to find a good bean for myself. Right now in debatingI run a sog with 35 ish plants in a 40" x 40" tent under 1k hps. I would not try to do a 1000 watter unless you have an ac unit and a thermometer to turn it on , I run TAG aeroponics , diy with a mist king system and pura vida nutrients. 3 seconds on 6 minutes off. I can pull over an ounce per plant in 50-55 days with a dialed in system, I would not recommend vertical growing in such a small space, it will be harder to set up IMO. Here are a few links for my setup's materials .

You cannot go wrong with the mist king kit, it has everything you need to start aeroponic growing.
A video on how to set up your tote. Dont pay attetion to the low pressure FAG (faux aero growing) system in the bottom, Just the lid. With SOG growing you can take plants from rooted clone all the way to harvest with this system if you keep the veg times low .
I would recommend a kush style strain for your first grow. Easy and reliable . I went with these after growing the same strains for several years and everybody is really happy with these , Quick to flower , POTENT and simple for sog applications.

Good luck to you BB
Yeaaaap this thread was a whirl wind.. ended up buying a 4 x 4 and well now still deciding whether sog or scrog but its all from seed so yeah.. plus wanted to have thegood soil taste.. I want my herb to be like the shit thats around here hahaI thought this was about tickest turnaround method. You've chosen one of the longest methods to turn over a crop but that's okay . Once you get a few grows under your belt with the proper equipment you may or may not want to switch to some sort of hydro to speed things up a bit, if speed of finish is not a priority anymore then stick with what your planning.
