THC immune suppression

I noticed that when I smoked mj daily for a few weeks I would get a tooth abscess on a particular upper front tooth. The first few times wasn't that bad, just soreness, but recently it got worse. My entire upper lip area swelled up and right now it also moved up to one eye, making the area below it swell up like I got punched, but without the bruising. These infections happened exclusively when I had used mj steadily, as I said. I now have to actually stop using it before it kills me. So I searched "cannabis immune suppression" and found the following.

"Smoking marijuana can suppress the body's immune system, which explains why pot-smokers are more susceptible than non-smokers to certain cancers and infections, according to a new study. This effect of marijuana is due to chemicals in the drug that fire up the body's production of immune system cells called myeloid-derived suppressor cells. While most immune system cells are protective — fighting infections and cancers to keep a person healthy — these cells suppress the immune system, keeping it in check, according to the study...

...The researchers injected one group of mice with THC and compared them with a group not injected with the compound. The mice injected with THC had more of the immune-suppressing cells than the mice who didn't receive THC, according to the study. The researchers found that marijuana triggered the production of a massive number of myeloid-derived suppressor cells — leading to immune suppression and cancer growth — by activating cells that respond to the cannabinoids found in marijuana, researchers said. Cancer patients have more of these cells than healthy people. The suppressor cells can even hinder cancer therapy and promote cancer growth, the study said."" http://www.livescience.com/9008-marijuana-suppresses-immune-system.html
So it's not quite as benign as many believe. The page says that the immune suppression may be beneficial in certain conditions in which the immune system is overactive and attacking the body itself, such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus and hepatitis. Otherwise, probably not a great idea to use it, at least not daily.

BTW, I suggest that people interested in curing cancer rather than causing or promoting it do some research on the polyphenols in Rosemary, specifically Carnosic acid, carnosol and rosmanol. These compounds have similarities to Cannabinoids, appearing to have similar functions in the plants, mostly antioxidant and UV protection. More is produced in response to UV like with Cannabis. Anyway, point being, Rosemary may be the real miracle herb. Oddly, you never hear it mentioned whereas you hear about medical Cannabis all the time. An added benefit is that it's completely legal, doesn't cause intoxication and is very common.

Interesting read. I'm very interested in learning ways to improve the health of myself, friends, and family... Yesterday, I came across a YouTube video of a person promoting juicing raw hemp for CBD's...

Much research needs to be done - Looking forward to dependable information!

I don't know if CBD suppresses the immune system or not. If not, it would certainly be preferable to THC.

Interesting that this is the first study I've ever seen that said Cannabis promotes cancer. Seems that nearly universally, the opposite findings have been seen in studies over the decades.

I wonder if they are assuming a more tempered immune response means higher cancer. Those are not linked. There is a soil bacteria product known as rapamycin that while tempering the immune response, it also suppresses cancer.

IDK, but triggering the production of a massive number of myeloid-derived suppressor cells can't be a good thing, unless you have an overactive immune system, and I doubt it was an error. Massive is not usually standard deviation. Why even risk it when Carnosic acid is readily available and better? Compare the articles yourself. I think the evidence is clear that Rosemary is the premium anti-cancer herb on earth. Also great as an antioxidant to replace BHA type antioxidants for food preservation. Many patents exist for Carnosic acid food antioxidant preparations.

Carnosol may be the best Rosemary compound for cancer prevention and treatment, apparently.

Cancer is an unbeaten health challenge for the humankind. After striving for decades to find a cancer cure, attention has now been shifted to reduce the morbidity and mortality from cancer by halting the course of tumor development. Numerous bioactive phytochemicals, especially those present in edible and non-edible plant species, have been reported to reduce the risk of many cancers. Multiple lines of evidence suggest that carnosol, a phenolic diterpene present in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), holds the promise of preventing certain types of cancer. A remarkable progress has been made in delineating the biochemical mechanisms underlying the chemopreventive effects of carnosol. Results from in vitro cell culture studies as well as animal model experiments have revealed that carnosol inhibits experimentally induced carcinogenesis and exhibits potent anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative and apoptosis inducing properties. Moreover, carnosol enhances the sensitivity of chemoresistant cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents.

funny but you can find a study to support any position you want to take.the proper approach is to look at what most studies agree on

It's not a position I wanted to take. It's me trying to avoid getting my flesh eaten by bacteria because weed knocked down my immune system.

That's a complete misunderstanding of what's going on or even purported to be happening. Maybe that's a joke but you're extrapolating way too much from this one article's connection, which I've already said doesn't necessarily match up with the sensationalist title.

And let's not forget that other than long-debunked government propaganda "studies" (similar to the "studies" showing tobacco was good for you), pretty much all you read from 30 years ago up to now show Cannabis as a great thing physiologically.

Believe what you want. I posted the results of a scientific controlled experiment. Your gripe is with the scientists.

You can just stop.
You are absolutely incorrect, and need to just stop trying to be a google scientist. Perhaps you should brush your teeth? Or stop smoking meth, it rots your mouth. And makes you say stupid shit.
To suggest that cannabis is harmful, on a forum full of people who KNOW it is not, is about as stupid as it gets.
Your search phrase brought you to false information. Try "cannabis and the immune system", or, "cannabis and antibodies". You may learn something.
Don't come here with your bullshit.

2010 study on mice injected? Are you serious?
Have you been in a cave for the last 6 years?
You need to do more reading. There are many scholarly articles out there.
Oh right, 2010 is ancient times. Now try putting "THC immune suppression" into Google and let me know what you see. I bet it's a long list of articles about THC suppressing the immune system. Go figure.

i am not an expert. but i have smoked some really really trashy mj. Now I only do rosin dabs which i think is one of the best ways to ingest THC.
What about all the people eating medical edibles with THC?
i would go to the doctor if my tooth abscess was that bad. they are very painful and relatively common. I can tell you I wouldn't have the urge to dab if i had a tooth abscess.
The good news is that you could put your decarboxylated Rosin into gel caps to eat.
It's good to read about the benefits of Rosemary.
