Benefits of not topping?

Just so I'm not confused
You start seedlings @12/12 then pull them into veg after showing sex
I don't.

I mean that any plant in veg 18/6 or more will still show sex at 4-6 weeks. They do it when sexually mature.

You can start 12/12 or more. It doesn't matter. A plant will not flower until sexually mature. At least a month. So run it 18/6 to get more growth. After 4 weeks flip to flower to determine sex and then flip back.

You can also do it they way I said. You veg your plants. While they still veg you top them. You put the tops in flower so the main plants can keep vegging. Lets say you had 4 plants. Number the pots 1-4. Then take four solo cups and number them 1-4. Fill the cups with water. As you top number 1 put the top in cup number 1, so on and so forth. Take the tops in the cups of water (clones) and flower them. They will live in the cups long enough to show sex.

Less weed, which means you'll run out faster. Which is a good benefit for your local dealers and growers!

Top like someone has a gun to your head and is forcing you. That's how necessary it is. Unless you just don't give shit about your time and like yielding less smoke lol.

Yup one plant in a 6 gallon pot, probably 5 gallons full of soil. I use coated gardening wire ties and tie the top down CAREFULLY when once it seems necessary. After a few days usually more branches need to be tied down and so on. Eventually most of the branches are tied down nearly horizontal to keep an even canopy. About 4 weeks into flowering I don't have to adjust any of the ties and I get a plant that looks like a giant round bush with a flat top. I also only remove fan leaves if they're shading bud sights, otherwise they stay on through the entire time.

I usually veg until the plant shows it's pre flowers. In this case 4 1/2 weeks I flipped to 12/12 and she finished at 9 1/2 weeks of flowering.
Great advice! Trying not to stress the plants

Damn that's pretty dope dude thanks. I'm not good @ cloning I tried with the big plant when I topped. internode was @ 3full node 5-6 emerging
  • Cut stem @45degree angle shaved the stem sides a bit.
  • I used honey water cinnamon solution
  • Stuck them in soil and put a small clear cup over them for humidity but shriveled after 3 or 4 days

The goal isn't to keep them. It is to sex them while the mainplants still grow.

Why cinnamon? That cant be good. Next time just use plain water and put them in low light. Add just a bit of nutrient solution and 50% should make it. Just like when grandma took cuttings and put them in water. A window seal with indirect sunlight will do.

yup, i just got a few cuts, and i took a baby's sippy cup, the kind with the built in straw on the side.. i happened to have an old air pump lying around that i wasn't using, so i ran the air line down the straw part in the sippy cup, filled the cup about 3/4's or so full, added a bit of nutrient mix, and dipped the stem in rooting hormone after cleaning it up, and i have roots all over the place, they're about to take off in the next few days and i'll transplant to some soil after.. i think it's been around 10 days or so..

I pop them, get them to teenagers and up pot, then I will cut for clones, throw plants into 12/12 to sex them, as soon as I see sex if they are stubborn in veg, then I will reveg for 2 weeks and they go back to being moms and get cut for clones. I used to 12/12 from the start and I still only do this if I am real low on space, I started doing 12/12 from seed back in 2010, due to absolutely no space to play with, I dont sex them now till after 1 month of veg growth from up pot. 12/12 from seed is great for a quick set of meds while your vegging other stuff, you can chuck males like 3 weeks in and keep rolling, great way to use a flower chamber that is waiting on veg plants.

Outside there is no need to top, the plant will do it's thing and surprise you if you have never left one alone before but....indoors you must top due to limitations

Cool. it's possible to reveg. never heard of that.
Just putting it out their kinda FYI style. If for some reason you lose your clones or loose a Mother it is totally possible to reveg after completion of flower. Just by leaving a small amount of the lower growth on the plant you can put it in 24 hr lighting and in 6-8 weeks you can take clones. Photo below is a plant that produced 2.5 oz after a week of 24 hr light. Next photo a few weeks of reveg last photo about 6 weeks reveg and cleaned up

I grow outside and do not top..well I use to and seen the side branches developed more popcorn buds..now not topping I get fuller buds on the inner of the branches..strange but true...and also less bud rot as the plant is not congested and better air flow...

letting a plant grow naturally using a SOG growing style would reduce vegging time if you are not limited by state law concerning the number of plants you grow. if you grow from seed then your cost for seed would be a little higher and yield per plant would be lower without extensive topping and training.

I don't even use an air stone. The air stone helps but I still get 50%+ survival without it.

I've found that topping has a different impact and styles if you are running from seeds vs clones. A plant from seed will want to form the natural christmas tree shape, which you either want or don't want. Topping those is fairly straight forward since there is a defined dominant central point of growth. I've found with clones I've taken or gotten from dispensaries, the plant benefits a lot from being "shaped" -- strategically topped/FIM'd or just pruned. They usually don't have the same symmetrical pairing-off branch pattern as a plant from seed.
