I was looking at building some until I was looking and my wife told me to buy what I wanted she didn't want anymore homemade lights lol so I just ordered two of these.

https://www.ledgrowlightsdepot.com/collections/1000-watt-hid-replacements/products/lifted-led-city-14
What diodes are they using?
If its not Cree or another well known name you overpaid....
I would have reccomended PLC or Timber or CobKits or any other CREE COB LIGHT over EPistar Garbage.
Looks like its using crap epistar chips...
Setting up an arduino wifi controller is quite simple.

I honestly would cancel my order and look at COB options as you poverpaid and boight into there marketing. Just anotehr epi light with a few features...

This brings us Back to the Op
How many ebay cobs will it take to make the same amount of light as name the brand cobs?
People on this forum seem to hate ebay cobs for lack of Quality Control but how bad can they really be at half the price ?
Do they put out half the amount of light ? I doubt its half the amount of light.

Its around 80/lm per watt.
I could see maybe 100/lm a watt if runn at like 700ma maybe.

Its a good question as I would like to test it.
If your going to go with the cheap ones atleast get the Copper and Gold ones.
I have a link if you want.
They will grow plants fine, Name Brand will grow them better with less wattage.

I have yet to see a side by side of Epistar vs cree or vero COBS but there are tons of blurple epistar side by sides and vero and cree killed them.

it is cob full spectrum, the side diodes are just for ir and uv. Honestly I get LEDs a few times a year test them out if they're no good I just throw them up on Craigslist for cheap. My wife just didn't want me building anymore. She's more if it "looks" safer do it rather than build. Besides the guys at lifted gave me a good deal on two. Personally I don't mind spending the money and trying them out.

The Epistart COBS are just as garbage as the single diodes...
Its looks nice sure but like I said above PLC or Timer or Northern make a much better light for less.
If its not a Cree, Vero, Citi, Osram, Samsung, Nichia its likely garbage.
Your just buying into the marketing.
You got fooled mate.
I highly suggest you cancel adn go with a Cree or Vero COB. Ortherwise keep buying the same Epistar garbage.

I doubt he gave you a good deal unless it was 50 cents each.
Please read through the LED section on Cree and vero COBS and why Epistar is garbage.
Your getting less PAR per watt and paying 2 x the price...
Meaning your yield will go up with COB ( Cree or Vero or Citi0 not garbage Epistar full spectrum crap .

@Rahz @CobKits
Please explain to this guy better than I can why Epistar COBs are no better than the cheap DIodes and he can get a better light from one of the Cree builders here ( Vero and Citi included.)

I always thought the more you drive a cree cob the less efficient it is where as the more you drive a vero the better it becomes ????

Also to my understanding although cree is made all over the world the real patent owner is Chinese, maybe someone can correct me if i am wrong

i m leaning towards citizen and Vero units its cheaper and not much difference in reality unless you get into some science. But the fact remains even with science its hard to duplicate or achieve there claims..

with lighting taking the industry by storm and new tech i would place bets Cobs will be like MH is to hid industry or the steam engine to the pacific rail trains lol in the next few years bottom line is cost right ???

So the real answer is what is a person trying to grow with a led anyways if we use what LED companies recommended then it would be 25 watts per sq foot for led

Lets not see another man waste his money to marketing.
i understand Cree and citizen cobs are great I have some citizen 1818's and 1825. I'm simply going to try something different and see how it does! It may be a strange concept for some I know. Besides I also have a few kind xl1000's, a lush dominator x2, 6 aquamana lights I originally had on my reef tanks they have epistar diodes pulls 165 watts from the wall I use them in my veg room. Because let's face it if it can grow coral it can veg a plant. Those cheap little bastards are three years old and still running strong. No dead LEDs or anything. So don't get me wrong I like all lights I have a bunch from across the board. I would have liked to get Johnsons maximzier to try out as well but it's gotten harder to find. I also know I could build a wifi module to control my lights. I have more than enough certifications from Cisco, comptia, Microsoft as well as a degree in computer science infrastructure side from NMC. I simply like trying something new. Something no one else has tried yet.

Bad Ass ! Thank you for sharing! If you post a review or photos, please feel free to fwd to me. I would try that high tech light out if i could too! I think it would inspire some good sci fi novels hovering above a room.

Same reason I have smart bee controllers an monitors they're different and something to play with.
I understand now. However, Epistar or Epileds whatever COBS are just not worth it.
All the Chinese companies are making them now and American companies are buying them and putting some custom hardware.
What i am saying is your paying more to get less.
If you wanna look at a nice blurple fixture: https://chilledgrowlights.com/

It's all good even cobkits knows I had spoke with him earlier in the month about getting 12 more citizen 1818's and running them. But like I said the wife doesn't want me building anymore. I have plenty of burple lights so much so it looks as though I'm being kidnapped by aliens. My wife controls the money it's the only reason I have enough to blow on stuff so meh. Hey I'll let everyone know once I get them if they're good or not.

Was just making sure you were aware of what you were buying.
Sick of seeing people waste money, but seems you know what your buying.
Also seems your wife is rolling it in :)
Cheers, hope to see an update on it.

Lol thanks for looking out. It's just like everyone that's states all LEDs guys are into because they're so invested. I invested in solar to run my house and rooms running hid lights and still prefer LEDs lol. Not rolling in it but saved a lot when when we would deploy overseas.

Gaotcha! I prefer LED as well regardless of HID.
Just about to convert an old Mars 1200 Body into a Vero 29 Beast with Meanwells for my 3 x 3.
