2x2 area in closet, need some advice

Ok so there is a 2x2 area in my closet, recessed, that I can tuck a tent away in. I have found a few 2x2 tents and it will be an exact fit other than the front....I might have to modify the tent for a passive intake on the bottom of the front or something but I am kinda screwed as far as options and space.

In this space I think I can get a 250w dimmable and rock 250 which would be about perfect. If I have to go to 200 thats still 50 watts per square foot which is alright. My questions are, in this setup would you guys run 16 6 inch pots? What are some good kush strains that stay nice and short and have HEAVY top colas, and do you think 3-4 ounces per month is a good goal? Also if you feel you have better lighting advice im up for opinions, i just love HID.

Btw the tent will be about 4-5 ft tall depending on the model i get.

This is a great setup idea for such a space. I was going to say 250. I'm jealous cuz now i'm stuck with a 400.
If you are planning growing like those short 1 ft ruderious low ryders or something 16 is good, otherwise I would keep the plant number 2-4 females (kush types). I would expect 2.5 zip from a 250 if you're new to growing.
if they still have those mini parabolic vertical reflectors those are nice (hard to find, mines 3ft "mini" (400w)). I don't see an air cooled reflector being necessary if you have good air flow

Thanks for your words. I think you are right, maybe 1 gallon/12x12 pots and just do 4. Yes it will be a kush of some sort, im a kush maniac. Do you think HID or LED would be the right way to go? I have used HID but never LED.

You will have heat and recirculation problems if you do not address these proactively... having no clearance on three sides will be tough.

I work in a 2x2.5' environment. My last grow, my third, I had a haul of 9 zips off of two plants in soil, flipping the lights 30 days after germination; as mentioned above, don't expect more than a QP until you figure out what's going on.

These plants will not begin flowering until they are ready, two or three plants in 3 gallon pots with good feminized genetics are probably your best option. At the scale we grow, I just don't see it being profitable to hunt a pheno then clone. If you want to do that, four clones with a week or two of veg would work pretty well.

The biggest downside to LED is initial cost. You can grow good bud with HID, but in terms of lumens per watt (efficiency) it's pretty hard to touch the highest quality CoB LEDs.

Thanks for your reply and advice. I will most likely go the route of finding a good mum in the bunch and using her from then on. LED is sounding promising, maybe after a grow or two in the new setup I will switch to whatever the best cob is. Also I think the top for exhaust, and making a 3 inch gap at the bottom of the unit with a passive intake at the bottom would work yeah? I may just ending building a box myself, tent is just easier.

i have a secret jardin thats 24inx24inx5ft and it is great for one large plant. I run a 400w but its def overkill.

If you're in an illegal grow type situation where smell matters, a carbon filter may be necessary.

I have a similar amount of wattage (250w LED) and passive intake works. I really don't know when it comes to your enclosed situation. Worst case you have to turn your light down, I guess.

LEDs are not intense enough and neither are fluorescents. I didn't want to spend like 1200 bucks on just lights (leds) and fluorescents are good for young plants. I put in blue t5 bulbs and later discovered finishing metal halide which is a breakthrough. (10000kelvin 96cri "finishing" metal halide lamp) this does not compare to normal hids and is great but dangerous because of the high uv. it requires a grow tent. pretty much blue grows the plant and red grows hormones for flowering

This is odd to me. From what I read LED are MORE intense, and cause burn way easier. Thanks for the insight though.

leds are more focused than other light sources and will burn plants if placed too close.many people have had very successful grows with CFLs or T5s. CMH bulbs work very well too. both florescent and CMH provide a better spectrum for plant growth and growers using these lights have found that they need less intensity to grow good plants. with HPS or LEDs people are running 5K- 10K lumens per square foot but T5 growers run 2.4K to 4.0K lumens per square foot. commercial growers up here have found that 630 watt CMH lights outperform 1000 watt HPS lights.

I would love to see a link to a thread of someone using one of those 630's that sounds nuts. Is the bud more airy?

do a google search for CMH or LEC grow lights your can get dense buds with any light but resin content is far more important.much of what is sold on the streets and in dispensaries up here is grown with CMH/LEC bulbs

Thats a big negatory there ghost rider L.E.D. lights are the most intense efficent lights you can buy for growing a plant indoors, They will outperform an hps or mh that is 2 times the wattage. Now I am talking COB LED lighting, not the 1 million lumen 15 dollar china led lights you get off of ebay . To the OP , if you want the best you can get build yourself a cob led light, with only 2x2 you could rock that space hard core with two or three cxb 3590 leds.

I also run a 2x2.5 tent. A Gorilla grow. An additional foot extension can be added to the top to make it taller, that is a nice feature. With COB led lighting.
I do 3 plants in 3 gallon flood and drain buckets. 3 3 gallon buckets fills the tent up.

I also start from femed seeds. No clones, no autos, and few reg seeds as getting males in such a small grow is a drag. And the quality of some of these seeds is amazing.

How much do those cree cobs run? The ones you are mentioning. I have been hearing about this light all over.

Is there a reason you run from seed and not clones? I am just curious.

Yeah I see your point =) I hear lizard lights work well for resin production as well.

Clones require a mother. A mother requires room, probably its own room. A 2x2 is just too small to run a mother and flower clones.
Getting a clone from "outside" your grow is asking for issues with pests or funguses or???
