I have an emu in the backyard and im scared it might eat my plant, its on a barrel out in the back, and unfortunately it isn't high enough to prevent the emu from taking a chunk out of it.. My plant recently sexed to a female, so now I feel even more protective of my plant...

What should I do?

Looks like if you could tame it that it would make a great watch bird. Aren't emu's supposed to be kind of dangerous, don't they have big hooks in their claws that they can raise and slash the hell of a person?

nah emu's are pretty docile... in australia we have a bird in the northern parts called a Cassowary Cassowary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
that might be the one you are thinking of.
these bastards are truly evil and will not think twice about ripping your guts out and feeding on your insides :D

I think it's pretty fantastic that you have an Emu. LOL! How random and hilarious!

Hopefully you can isolate your plant, because Emus are omnivores and eat grasses, plants, insects, etc. Apparently, they love grass shoots- so, it's possibly that the emu will eat the plant if you allow it to. If you can't isolate the plant and/or hide it from Mr. Emu, why not try distracting the emu with treats, etc. OR, in the alternative, hang something nearby that's scary to birds. DO NOT use tin foil- some birds think it's fun to play with and find it more interesting than scary.
