DIY with Quantum Boards

Bro - your planned lights especially version 2 is bad ass. Any plant update pic. If little has changed we can wait a few days. You appear to be the only one here with QB's in flower.
Not the only one =0)

So I was reading ttys vertical thread on these and someone mentioned light movers in it which got me thinking.

Has anyone thought of building a fixture with these that simply stands vertical and rotates?

Im thinking something along the lines of 3 or 4 boards end to end with a base with a motor in it that simply rotates. Seems to me like it would be a very efficient way to get around the fact that these are directional lights.

I would offer this idea to Tty, but he would either say its retarded without any reasoning simply because its coming from me, or he would claim he came up with the idea and is the best innovator in the world. lol

Anyone want to try the idea out? @Stephenj37826 do it and make some money!

I have Mars 600. So so in veg with T8s surrounding it. Pretty useless in flower. The blues and reds seem to spin off nodes in veg but it is pretty much a waste of time.
It's a decent light but now I'm using less than half the watts "100w" and getting better results. There is no doubt in my mind that these will flower as good as any 3500k COB setup if not slightly better due to light spread and penetration.

Would it be like a helicopter blade? Rotates from the middle panel?

One thing I noticed in the pictures from our friend with the creepy mask - the leaves all the way at the edge by the tent were doing as well as the middle. The light spread is awesome.

Because they are so cool - my guess is you can get them right on top plants like a t5/t8. I know COBs can get close but with these even closer. You probably don't need to get that close anyway.

Heat wise they are very cool. I'm keeping the light 12" - 16" from the top. I think any closer at 100w I might get light bleaching but may be doable. Light spread and penetration might be different in a grow tent vs an open space.

It's not that the boards don't work well in parallel. That driver is constant current 1050 ma. It also has a maximum voltage of 238 volts. So running two boards is series is for instance 110v+110v= 220v. The driver will push 1050 ma no matter what voltage it gives in its normal operating range 119-238 volts(the drivers constant current range). That being said if you had purchased HLG 240 2100 instead you would have ran them in parallel because that driver has a maximum voltage of 119 but pushes 2X the current or 2100ma. In parallel the current (2100ma) is divided between each board. In series the voltage is not really divided but for all intensive purposes you can think of it that way. Hope this helps.
so if i was running 2 boards and had an option of either running a 240-2100 (in parallel) or a 240-1050 (in series) is either a better option? or are they basically the same?

Likely not a big difference. If running parallel, and if 1 board fails, all that amperage WILL get dumped into the other board(s).. Potentially killing all your boards. You can design your circuit with a fail safe if you wish. In series, if 1 board fails, the circuit is broken, you'd lose the one board to failure, but others would be fine when you rewire it.

This likely isn't a big enough reason to chose one or the other, both are used, both work. I don't hear of many quality/name-brand COBs failing when wired properly, weather series or parallel. The QBs are a bit of a new design, and lets say less proven, but I want to hope they'll have a similar [low] failure rates. Time will show us this.

I'd like to run 4 of these alone in a 4x4 area. get maybe 500w at the wall. Id bet the coverage would be nice and even

Kinda like this?

Yeah we are offering these pre assembled just for a 4X4 area and it will adjust up to 600 at the wall on 120V. I usually preset at 550 as this gives the drivers a little room to breathe and also it's pretty darn bright at that wattage.

The bottom fixture is 24"X24" for an open area 4' wide tables. If I was doing it in a tent I might consider 28"X28"-30"X30"

LOL! You are a cruel man. Santa has come and gone. Ha ha. This thing is sick! This is so bad ass. :cuss: :hump:

When will you have stuff back in stock? I am sending some business your way and I will be right after him.

I will probably go for this serious bad boy. Happy New Year to you and the rest of the gang here.

In the future, i would appreciate a quicker turn around. I mentioned this almost an hour ago, and it took you over 45 minutes to return with a fully functioning, tested and beautiful build design for what I was talking about. jeez!

also if you are looking for someone to...test...a photon 450. I could help you out i suppose....

Give him a break. He's got a bunch of kids to raise and a wife and a day job to take care of... otherwise it would have been mere SECONDS! LMAO!
