The COB effect...

DE HPS is alright... but nothing special IME. This was a grow I did a while back, .8g/ROOM Watt. There were ALOT of issues with that grow and it came out alright.

The strain was an Auto and there were 7 plants in the 5x5.

Plants under the COBs are healthier than ive ever seen under HPS... but we will see soon enough.

I loved my 1000W DE and would get around 1g/W with it (1200+ grams per light), but with the COBs I get 1.5g/W and a better product too. Most importantly I don;t need the height so much anymore and heat issues during the summer are a thing of the past.

@Gquebed , I haven't noticed the leaves being thicker more sturdy though. What type of COBs are you using (color temp and CRI) and what kind of average light intensity in umol/s/m2.

Cree 3590s
They are Tasty's t4-2100s. I have 4 of those. 2 each in 2 4x4 areas. (Same space, but i run them as two...lol)

I wonder... what about curing?

I have my first cob run in jars now for about 2 or 3 weeks. Should be turning the corner about now to premium taste and i wonder... if the difference between fresh dried and properly cured will be as dramatic as it usually is with hps?

Anybody have observations on this?

Like i said...the pics dont do justice.

But what i can say is that the lockout on this run reduced my yield by 30 to 40% of normal. So my trim was obviously reduced too by about the same. However, when i did my hash run with the reduced amount of trim (reduced further by the fact that not a single lower bud was included, as was usual) i almost doubled my hash yield. Almost doubled... i cringe at the thought of what it couldve been had i a full yield.

But more importantly, the buds... as i said, rock solid all the way down to the bottom and i did not mulch a single one for hash. Not one.

PLUS... the bud that i have is so coated with resin that when chopped and rolled up they barely burn. The resin bubbles up and snuffs the cherry...

Maybe guys are doing that with hps, but i never could and i have never seen it any thing of the like in my 40+ years of smoking weed. Nothing like it at all.

So im sold. Just have to dial it all in as solid as my enviroment now.

I have been running cobs for a while now, and i am still on the fence about them. I am running same as most people 3500k with a few 3000K, 3590s.

As said earlier in this thread, they grow plants, buds are rock fucking hard so something is good about the spectrum regards to that. My concern is the lack of stretch, you must be thinking really lack of stretch ? that's a good thing no? Well to some extent, i just find the plants stay too short and produce intolerable amounts of leaves, this could just be the learning curve to figuring out what is the best parameters to use. Not even the AK i got in flower now would stretch. That is my only issue so far. The ultimate test for me would be a 100% sativa : )

I also have noticed less stretch with cxb3590s 3500k compared to HPS which suits me fine as I've low roof height .
I'm still not dialled into the cobs but I'm getting good results and expect to do better as I fine tune my new set up
I think I force the plants to stay short due to so much light.
With the strain I'm running now I see less leaf under the cobs.

this was what led me to buying the 2700k 80 cri cree and they give just a few extra inches of stretch and finish just as nice as the 3000k and 3500k cobs. i know alot of guys use the 3500k because it has great veg ability but i dont need veg lights so i went a dif direction.
