Sorry to rain on your parade. But you would better to bury that halfway. KEEP THE SAME DEPTH IN THE BOX. It will help better to in keeping the soil moist.
I'm with Vostok. (If you do sink it deeper)....you can use, (if it's good(),the soil you dig up and mix with compost. You may need to still supplement nutes tho.
All my organics from the kitchen are in a compost pile. In the fall I till them in. Always thinking of next year.

When you compost is it just throwing vegetable scraps and coffegrounds in the dirt ?

That soil in your yard actually looks pretty good I would mix that with some compost and perlite

so what ya planning on putting in there? i got tomatoes, green peppers, banana peppers, jalapenos, onions, garlic, eggplant, basil, oregano, rosemary, and pumpkins out already.
did pretty much what these guys are suggesting, filled it about half way with local dirt then added top soil, compost, and some coarse sand.
if you live in a hot dry place i would agree with burying at least a few inches of that, if its not that bad where you live, i wouldn't worry too much, your plants will quickly grow down into the actual soil. it might be a good idea to turn up the soil real well before you place it permanently, and maybe amend it slightly, a little lime, maybe a couple of bags of sand if you have poor drainage, maybe a couple of bags of compost if your soil is played out.
i'd love to post some pics but my bed is right by the road and easily recognizable, don't want the local authorities to come chat with me about gardening

I grew a bunch of peppers in 3 6ftx1ftx10" beds, I had to water a lot because I didn't bury them, but they worked fantastic for veggies.

probly have to train them a little, prune the inside side of each plant a little or else they'll grow into each other bad

I think i'm going to get a bunch of kiddy pools and build fences around them.

Well, I'm in the woods, Pests both animal and insect are a problem. Mostly Deer and Squirrel. See the occasional raccoon, but not as often now that I have a dog. But I got a lot of landscaping to do so Kiddy pools seem my best bet, I can move them if I have to. So I'm not committed to one spot only.
