chamber music thread

Today was Beethoven's 246 birthday. Great music all day on our local Classical station, WFMT, which is widely recognized as the greatest classical station in the Country. I love this man's music, from his late string quartets to his unbelievable symphonies. Here's some of my favorite works from him, feel free to post your own -

The greatest symphony ever written, The Ninth! I was at this concert last year, the world's greatest orchestra did it justice. The choir joins at 59:23 to bring down the house -

Pianists always turned my lip up until the other day. I watched a fat fingered cheese eating russian turn a crowd upside down.
Ive gotta say it was in the best three solos ive seen ever.

Lol. Was it classical music? I'm not a huge fan of the piano repertoire, either. But some stuff is amazing. I like when a piano is used as a percussion instrument. I love these Ginestera dances, they're hardcore argentinian funk...

Ya, the symphony is my weakness. It is more emotional than any other type of music. Its no wonder cinema and symphony hold such tight hands.
 
I love how if you look for deals symphony tickets are like seeds. Theres always a better deal if you look hard enough. A friend of mine routinely gets 100 dolar tickets for 20 bucks through some internet find. Gotta love cheap music.
 
I'm fortunate to have such a great musician as a teacher. Here he is playing with a harp, the timbre of the two instruments blend so well together. This entire album is gold -

I have a nice Angel records LP of Perlman playing Paganini's 24 caprices that I like a lot, the tone is really resiny and squonky through the midrange and sweet in the upper register.

That's cool. I've seen Perlman perform more than any other violinist, and took a couple master classes with him in the 90s. What do you attribute that funky mid range to in your recording? He plays that sweet ass Strad, so probably not the instrument ;)
