you may not need it due to your soil mix's or your water.

I have to add it or I get problems.

I've never seen leaves curl up so much, I don't think it's heat stress, maybe the roots hit a hot spot in the soil as it seems to be just the new shoot affected

as you know, new shoots can do some funny things. I wouldn't worry unless it spreads. You don't want to over react.
Cal/mag wont hurt tho. Hard to overdose on the stuff.
