This is most likely a calculated move for getting ready for June 2018 when it becomes legal in Canada. Alot of people will start or try growing and most likely LED will appeal to alot of people. Having a canadian distribution point will make it much easier for sales and returns and getting rid of duties and customs. It will be the same price most likely or a slight increase by 20 bucks or so like it is on Growers house. I think it's to help expand and simplify for them.
 
Also to anyone selling or planning to sell lights why is no one offering cases? I'd gladly pay a bit more for it to have a housing.

Plan as of now is to make this into a 4x3 frame with 2 inches between each strip.

Still don't know exactly what im going to be using for wire but i plan to source and price that once ive got everything else set up so i can do it directly to the build

Once again i'll be using this for a 4x4 set up and hopefully this can help someone in the future trying to do something similar

I used the aluminum door tracks for my first EB Strip build, but found out later that going to your local metal supply shop you can get aluminum channel or bracket cheaper and it will look better.
 
I imagine in the next year we will have more than one option in Canada for reduced cost on new-generation DIY tech. There's already a handful of people in Canada getting their own PCB's built and shipped directly to Canada with the Samsung chips. Would be nice if we could get some products without getting raped on the cost of shipping from China to USA, then to Canada. China to Canada direct is what we want.

A 75W Samsung PCB for $60 with free shipping on orders over $200 would be pretty dope.

That's how simple it is. I'm actually building the same thing except I'm using 2 of the 320w HLG's and making 2 seperate fixtures so that I can use them in a 2'x4', 4'x4' or make more to fill a 4'x6' or 4'x8'. It's also a bit easier wiring constant current and you don't have the risk of thermal runaway. Anyway, good luck and thanks for passing on the info for others. Maybe we'll see pics too.

Plus you spread out the photons over larger area hitting the plant surface from many directions !!

I am sorry perhaps I misunderstood what picklesrus was talking about. I thought he meant that people who are making / selling led grow lights in Canada are custom designing SMD printed circuit boards for import and resale in their products.

So you are telling me that you have designed and sourced/priced a custom PCB? From where? What was the design? Are there threads here on RIU that I have missed on this subject?
 
I’d be interested to see what your DIY builds are costing you with shipping all in.

We try to price our fixtures inline with DIY and ship from BC.

but for the $ per w ..the cost and retail price are way less than yours i think...
but you are an actual company..
and i am just diy guy who thinks he has something good to sell at a good price

and if i didn't under drive my units..the 3 'x 4' rigs would be 1500w each full power and crazy cheap per w instead of 600w.,.but would need the sourced heat sinks

im canadian, my plan is going to be getting all of the cob parts shipped to Florida and go there went i want to visit my friend, buying a ticket will probably be cheaper then shipping it all haha.

If you're trying to save money, why not just use EB or F-Series strips. Easier to build with, no expensive heatsinks required and better coverage over your canopy.
Also, you can order from Arrow or even Digikey and they ship for free, even internationally.
A third option, if you live close to a border crossing you can simply have your product shipped to a post office at the border and pick it up yourself and get free shipping that way.

yeah the 3rd option is also pretty good, since i do live close to Buffalo. its funny how i didnt think of that and its just so simple, also i haven't really searched up EB or F-series Strips, i am trying to do a 6x12 room so probably want 2,000Watts for entire room haha

My original question was a bit rhetorical. There are almost no products in Canada, period, that are cheaper to buy here than they are to order from the USA, even after duties etc. Especially anything electronics related.

I don't know about you but I pay way more to have most things shipped from Ontario to BC than I do from the USA. Warranty from HLG is golden, regardless of where you live and I'm sure for many it will not be cheaper or faster having the seller in Canada. Guess that depends on where GML is based.

I've bought from Robin several times and always got great service. Now that I think of it, I priced out 8 SST120 pin sinks in Canada and it was cheaper getting them from HLG even with duty and any other associated costs.

That's nice to see it's at least equally priced. Definitely not cheaper, especially when HLG puts them on sale for 20% off fairly often. Guess we will have to see if the Canadian website does the same discounts.
The poor guy is eating some massive shipping charges though. It will costs hundreds to ship an HLG 550 across Canada.
 
I'll definitely be recommending the website to Canadians though. Some people want the best lighting available and HLG is just that.
 
I like the idea of those strips, but the spectrum kind of sucks, peaks about 610nm with the 3000k diodes? You can get cobs with same color temp that peak around 640nm....
