Why are you trying to downplay the harassment she faced? She was suffering from depression. People cyber bullied her about being homophobic for not wanting to perform with someone who she felt increased her chances of contracting an STD. That doesn't make her homophobic. Reading her Twitter, it's obvious that is what tipped her over the edge when already in an extremely fragile state of mind. Should she have done it? No, of course not. But I'm not going to sit here and blame her for committing suicide.

Bullying, Cyberbullying, and Suicide
Empirical studies and some high-profile anecdotal cases have demonstrated a link between suicidal ideation and experiences with bullying victimization or offending. The current study examines the extent to which a nontraditional form of peer aggression—cyberbullying—is also related to suicidal ideation among adolescents. In 2007, a random sample of 1,963 middle-schoolers from one of the largest school districts in the United States completed a survey of Internet use and experiences. Youth who experienced traditional bullying or cyberbullying, as either an offender or a victim, had more suicidal thoughts and were more likely to attempt suicide than those who had not experienced such forms of peer aggression. Also, victimization was more strongly related to suicidal thoughts and behaviors than offending. The findings provide further evidence that adolescent peer aggression must be taken seriously both at school and at home, and suggest that a suicide prevention and intervention component is essential within comprehensive bullying response programs implemented in schools.
Cyber Bullying and Physical Bullying in Adolescent Suicide: The Role of Violent Behavior and Substance Use
The study’s findings showed that both physical bullying and cyber bullying associated with substance use, violent behavior, unsafe sexual behavior, and suicidal behavior. Substance use, violent behavior, and unsafe sexual behavior also all associated with suicidal behavior. Substance use and violent behavior partially mediated the relationship between both forms of bullying and suicidal behavior. The comparable amount of variance in suicidal behavior accounted for by both cyber bullying and physical bullying underscores the important of further cyber bullying research. The direct association of each risk behavior with suicidal behavior also underscores the importance of reducing risk behaviors. Moreover, the role of violence and substance use as mediating behaviors offers an explanation of how risk behaviors can increase an adolescent’s likelihood of suicidal behavior through habituation to physical pain and psychological anxiety.
So, according to the research, the tactic you choose to employ can, and does, lead to suicidal behavior

The methods of testing for STDs are different. Men who have sex with other men are statistically more likely to contract an STD than men who don't. It is not homophobic to state that statistic. Nor is it homophobic to choose who to sleep with based on that statistic, or not. If I choose not to sleep with a gay man, does that make me homophobic? Absolutely ridiculous
