I have been thinking about this for a few minutes. I have both and was curious what everyone else prefers/

Good thought! I really didnt think about that. But I do mainly seed grows. The last set of plants (monsters) I tried this with I was not successful. I cut them down yesterday and gave them to a friend to make something creative out of them with. OIls, edibles, etc......

Well i can tell you what I DO .
If you do enough reaserch on things like clonex ect ect . If im not mistaken most rooting hormones makes the same thing happen thats naturally in KELP ...
Right now im using RAW kelp as it is cheap enough and concentrate.
Heres where i follow harvey smiths advice
Instead of grow nutrients I soak my seeds rockwool in 1/4 strength BLOOM nutrients.
As too much N can reduce the urge to make roots. Theres plenty of n in the plants and in the bloom for the first 2 weeks or so.
This is whats in most starter fertilizer. less n more pk to help with root production. (These are basic answers but you get the jist) cause im no scientist lol
To my 1/4 strength BLOOM nutes i add kelp, humic acids (combined with kelp makes it work better) and b vitamins. Ph to 5.6
This is the rockwool soak and what i will water with for the first week or 2.
Then after the cotlyden start to yellow i switch to a little less then half strength GROW nutes with the same stuff added.
The mixes are dependent on hot hot your nutes are i like to under feed rather than over feed . But if your nutes are hot id say stick with 1/4 sthength and bump it up whatching for yellowing =needs more. Or tip twist and burn = too hot
To the POWER OF KELP
Now dependant on what you want in your buckets kelp and humic acid can be a ROOTS best friend lol
Im sad i did not take pictures because it was amazing what kelp did to my roots in 1 day
I had my clones in my rdwc and they where just put in so the roots where still small
But after i gave them kelp the roots that where below the water line ALMOST OVERNIGHT
Fattend up to about twice the diameter! And showed new "fishbone"roots
Im sold on kelp the only downside that i see is like any bio stimulants its a little thick and will coat your roots with black residue.
In my experience thus far it hasnt been a problem as the roots under the black are still white and strong. Just not "pretty"
Single most impressive result i have had in a long time
and its cheap! Can also be used as a foliar spray.
Just my experiences anyway

Im kinda like a black sheep with rapid rooters
I used them and they do what they are supposed to but there where things i didnt like and i had seeds die here and there (not saying the deaths are the RR fault )
but i grew to hate those brown sponges lol
Just my oppinon as i know people have GREAT success with them
i switched to rockwool for seedlings and im not going back.. easier to sow seeds, holds better air and water (IMO) way easier to moisten if the dry out, didnt rip my seed heads off
(coulda been my fault but i have to report it )
Also i had a 100 percent rate with rockwool even when i fucked a seed up and thought it waz a goner .
Im a little mean to my seeds i dont provide them any heat besides the room they are in . Nor do i use domes i like to plant it without popping it. Like nirvana seeds suggest.
But i do soak for 30 min in water with a drop of kelp
Like i always say this is not SCIENCE just my experiences im sure im wrong in many areas but this is what it is lol

Ha ha, I've been using some powdered Miracle Grow fast root for the past year with about 95% success rate. I cut the clones, dip in the fast root, stick in small pots of coco, and put out of direct light. I get roots in a week to ten days. I was in the hydro shop the other day and picked up some Vita Grow rooting compound. I've used it in the past with great results. Looking at the labels from both products I noticed they both have about .1% IBA (Indole-3-butyric acid). So same active ingredient just a different form "powder vs liquid" . I think when I use what I have up I'll just get some IBA and make my own cloning solution for pennies on the dollar.

I know it's in Willow along with and Salicylic acid. There are many people that make "Willow water" and use that for cloning solution with the same results as commercial products. I don't think kelp has IBA.Its in kelp im pretty sure

Sounds like a pain in the ass to make. I looked up the recipe and it states that you need to gather branches from or 1 st year willow trees or any species, I'm sure there is a simplified version. But at any rate where I live willow trees are not a common species.
Can you not add the Salicylic to the Kelp?

I need to make an aero cloner or a cloner of some sorts. I do not want to keep growing from seeds. The last time I tried doing cuttings and that did not go so well. You saw the outcome of those monster bushes, they went to the processor for oil.

Thats all we have in the house is top shelf local Grade A honey. So, do you dilute the honey. I get it though. thats a fuckin smart move. There are a shit ton of bennies in honey. I would have never thought of that. Although both of these product look like honey.

RAW kelp is sold by npk industries the one I'm using .
But the same things can be found @ kelp 4less and other places. Dont forget some humic acid as it combines with the kelp to be more efficient.
Unless something crazy impresses me this is the last run i will make with hydro store nutrients. .
When you say grow plugs you mean rockwool or rapid rooters?
Iwas having decent luck with rapid rooters but even one dead seed @18.oo sucks lol.
Im going rockwool for seeds
Cloners are awsome! No spraying, no monitoring,
Just snip it (makeing sure not to embolize them)
And toss it in the cloner.
Aero=free heat if you live in the cold
Bubbler= not as much heat if you live in the hot.
My aero uses airstones (just to add fesh air as my tote is kinda close to air tight when the plugs are in)
Ill have my cloner up in a few days

Not sure on that one but i know kelp contains auxins and gibberilac acid.
If you look up harvey smith (good stuff)
He tells how most the ingredients in root booters are derived from kelp..
And there are videos of people using kelp as a rooting agent along with honey and willow water
