120x120cm tent with LEDs

Currently I have 80x80cm tent and inside I have 6 Citizen 1212 driven at 1.05A, so 220W (watt meter shows 280W max). They cover perfectly 80x80cm tent.
I also have CREE CXB3590 driven at 1.8A (70W at the wall).

I want to buy new, bigger tent, 120x120cm.
Any ideas how to use what I have? Light fixture is 50x50cm (2x 50cm long and 10cm width heatsinks connected with some ALU profiles), and CREE in on CPU heatsink.

I was thinking about 4 PCB boards in each corner and light fixture in the middle, but maybe I can go with less money and better idea. I can throw away those Citizen COBs because they're not in the upper end of efficiency (155 LPW based on spreadsheets) if I can reuse those heatsinks and MW driver somehow.

So, please, discuss.

What about aprox 400w of 4 foot led strips, either samsung or brideglux eb strips? Lining the whole perifery. They are actually 112 cm long, not quite 4 feet so should fit ok.

I know how much I need, 460-480W max. As I grow autos, I know I don't need more.

But that was not question... I am looking for ideas from you, members.

That is also one of options. But I want reuse what I have, so maybe 240-280W of strips (so maybe HLG-240H-C1050A as I have the same now for Citizens). What's difference between single and double row F/Q strips? Except Vf, flux and watts. What's better to go and why?

Add a single double row 4' strip on the side and use the cree's in the little left over spot,

As I said, I want to reuse something. CREE 70W will stay for sure as it's efficient than Citizens.
When reuse is done, then budget is unlimited. COBs, strips, boards... I am open to suggestions.

I don't really see why you would throw out those citizens, they are still pretty good, especially when running them as soft as you are. I seem to remember that they are more efficient at 1.05A than the 3590's are at 1.8A, but I might be wrong :)

Also, running that 3590 at 1.8A might be a problem if it is built into the same fixture as the strips/boards you're buying. The light source with the strongest output will decide your distance from canopy, so dimmable drivers is an advantage when you're combining different stuff into one fixture.

Citizens at 1.05A are 155 LPW and 47% efficient on spreadsheets.
CREE are 50-52% efficient at 1.8A. They have their own driver and CPU heatsink.

I can buy new driver or try different wiring with them. And use some strips on that driver too. That way efficiency goes up. I think @Randomblame once telling about this, maybe tell again?

Hey konopCh.
At first, COB effiency depends on 1. binnings and 2. current flowing thru the COB. A CXB3590/CD bin @1,8A(67w) is probably less efficient than a Citi1212@1,05A(37w).

I would reuse everything. Get a 700mA driver and drive the 6 Citi's and the Cree COB in series. An HLG-185H-C700B is siutable, place the Cree COB in the center and 3 Citi's to each side. That should be 170-180w net. and around 55% eff.!
To add more light I would recommend to use 8 4ft single row F-strips and a another HLG-185H-C1050B. You already own an HLG-185H-1050B which is siutable for 4 single row 4footers(4x 46v=184x 1,05= min. 193,2w, probably ~200w, ~55% eff).

You can use a HLG-320 to drive all the strips on one big driver(94 vs 95% driver eff.) but you would have the HLG-185H-C1050B left over.
For series wiring it depends on the number of strips, with 6 strips you need an HLG-320H-C1050B and for 10 it would be the C700B. With an -48A CV/CC driver you could add more strips later. But I would not do it, simply because 2 HLG-185's are ~400w vs 350w from one HLG-320.

So what is needed in the end?

1x HLG-185H-C700B(7 COB's in series)
1x HLG-185H-C1050B(2nd half strips in series)
8x 4ft single-row F-strips(1st half strips to the old HLG-185 COB driver)
8x 1160mm 1" alu c-channel(20mm on each side for mounting)
2 or 4x 1160mm L channel (to complete the frame)

And here's an elaborate drawing how I imagine it could look like, lol!

That I was waiting, @Randomblame !! A true DIY makeover!!

Citizen 1212, 3000 K, 80 CRI are 50% efficient at 700mA. 23.5W each, so 140W. 165 LPW.

CREE (yes, I have 3500 K, 80 CRI, CD bin) is 160 LPW at 1.8A - I cannot find data for 700mA, it's possible to wire it on 700mA? Their calculator is only giving numbers above 1000mA, which is 180 LPW. Very nice numbers! So around 25-30W at 700mA I guess.
So total is 165-170W of COBs.

Maybe change settings to HLG-240H-C1050A? I have this driver.
So I can put 5 strips perfectly on it, right? 5x46V=230V, driver is 238V. So this is 240W of strips, plus 140W of Citizens and 25-30W of CREE. Total 405-410W. Maybe I am on a low side 25W per SQF. LPW of strips at that current?

If you look at the first pic it's a spheere test done by cobkits. Both 1212 and CXB are 36v COB's if they run with the same current and Tj. the voltage should be equally(±1v). At 700mA the Cree COB is only a tad better because of slightly lower temps(ceramic performs better at low currents) and of course you could drive them at 700mA even with 350mA if you want. My old CXA2540 are running with ~175mA and they are rated with 1,1A, max. 1,8A.

You can of course use 5 and a HLG-240, should be up to 260w(with dimmer wires left open). So ~430-440w total. It is a bit low but you could add another HLG-240 later when you decide the yield was not enough. But I don't think you will miss something. Strips and low criven COB's allows to work with half the distance to the canopy. At 12" you should have +50.000lx no matter in which area you measure.

I SCROG plants, I grow autos. With that setup and light intensity, it's possible to get 30cm colas rock hard? I can get that with 6 Citizens at 220-250W, hanging 45cm from net and 20cm from tops.

Oh, and with CREE COB in the middle, it would look like this (this pic was taken 2 years ago):



Notice that 2 heatsinks are 50cm long, new tent would be 120cm. I can de-mount those two L profiles at the each side which holds two heatsinks together.

So... @Randomblame we have a little problem here with coverage? I don't have brains how it should look like in 120x120cm tent...
