I run my garden perpetually so I put 10-12 clones into flower every 3ish weeks. They all flower together in a 4x4 flood and drain tray under my 1k hps. At any given point there is between 36-48 plants in flower. All at various stages of flower.[/QUOTE]

Nutrient level depends on strain. I've ran as high as 1100ppm but usually try to keep things about 6-700. This seems to be plenty for the genetics I'm currently running. And ph is pretty standard for hydro, right about 5.8 but I actually prefer when it swings just a little. Every couple days I'll top off my res with either plain water or nutrient mix depending on how much the plants are eating and ph levels.
I've been growing this way for about 9 years now because of simplicity and success. There are lots of great ways to grow though. I know other ways are better for some reasons/results but for what I need my system has been pretty good to me over the years.

The roots don't hard leave the pots. They air prune of they make it out and it's never an issue.
You can do less plants it will just lower your yield unless you veg them longer and make them bigger which takes up more space.
This thread is about a SOG. Typically that means a whole bunch of small plants making up a Sea Of Green.

Ok so just to be clear. I’m a noob to this.
6” pots filled with Hydroton (clay pebbles) top to bottom single pot?
This is where I’m confused. Flood and drain, so how high up the pots does the water get to per cycle?what I don’t understand is how the Hydroton gets watered? I assume the clay pebbles absorbed enough to reach the top?
Could I use top feed? Lots of little hoses I know but simple enough since they’d be really short if the main line runs beside the pots.
So can I use a 15 min timer for flood and drain?I have a few of those. Don’t really want to spend extra on a second timer.

Oh yeah the 1100 was very high in my opinion. But my white widow loved it! Most other strains get ran lower. I don't like to slam plants with nutes and additives I try to keep the feed lighter. That ppm is also with about 140 in my tap water just FYI. Tonight my res is sitting at 630ish. Which is great last night it was in the 660s, so I know my plants are eating nicely.

The roots go to where the water is. Sometimes...with fresh clones I'd cram a 1/2" hose down into the E&F fitting and use that hose to top water. Maybe a few days till roots grow. My pots were about 6" tall and would get flooded about halfway. The system works great...

Exactly this myke. You need to read read read. Really if you want to learn the most that I can teach you read my whole tread start to finish. There are so many awesome growers that have shared knowledge on my thread and you can see much of my learning process with growing both in soil and hydro. Read the the "Al B. Fuct" thread I mentioned from beginning I end even if it's 500pages. It's massive amounts of info being freely shared with you. Just waiting for you to read it.
