Should mention
looking good over there
Thanks! I think that big fat top-cola look awesome. Been there done that, still smoking it,
IMG_5632.JPG Look below the big cola. I got more large dense flower weight from the one on the right. (both before I found mainlining)
but we all know a flat-top (however you do it) is gonna have a better, more even quality harvest. And in the end, it all gets ground up bongsmilie

SO this is my last 'experiment' to see if one pruning method makes a difference over another (since the limbs are different) and I may just go back to the straight-8 and flipping it as early as possible. With this 'scrog-without-a-net' method I have had to deal with crowding and pruning every watering and I know that having the extra shoots is slowing down the main cola. So in all aspects, is it really worth it for me?

Basic math, if I can dry a half ounce from each cola on a v-8 easier and quicker that's 4oz per plant in less time with less stress etc. I'm good with 4oz per harvest - it meets my needs and then some. I'm also good with less stress:cuss:

How badly have I screwed up? :wall:

I basically butchered all my plants half baked after reading about mainlining without properly understanding it. I then decided it was a good time to start reading about it. So I know now these plants were a little premature, they were only moved to these 2 litre pots 2 days ago from 500ml so definitely won't have a proper root system. They all have 5th set of leaves coming out the top, the bigger ones were on their 6th..

Also don't see many in hydro or any in rockwool, is there a reason for that? The biggest pots they'll go into are 12 litre, that's 3 US gallons? Will this be enough for 4-8 tops?

I went in this morning and there is pretty much zero growth up top after 12 hours, praying its going into the roots.

Will this have seriously slowed/stunted them for the remainder of the grow, am I better slinging them? they're about 25 days from seed, 21 days since all had leaf.

They are green and vertical so just wait. I don't know about rockwool, so I can't help there, but those little-bitty sprouts by the leaves are your new plants. Watch them. Screwed up leaves won't fix themselves so disregard that.

One thing not stressed in the tutorial(s) is watching those 2 sprouts that you are keeping. I pick a node after she get's tall enough then watch those two sprouts period. I don't care how tall the plant gets, but you need those 2 sprouts, so I wait.

That said, I have seen others do like yours and they were fine.

Cheers, I'll be watching the little sprouts from now on!
@McFrosticles , If you check out my grow page, I have a NL seedling that I will be manifolding. Probably a month before anything actually happens though.
Cheers for the info mate, hopefully they make it.

Nice one followed for the ride!

It'll be fun. I just grow for me and like trying different stuff - but all in dirt. Cloning the stuff I snip off the NL is the next project on the calendar :)

When I top it I'll grab a few of the best (or just clone the whole top and do another manifold!!!), but I want to try a few more later in veg when I shape the manifold. I am starting all future manifolds as a 4-top.

I plan to top at either the 3rd or 4th node initially because it makes sense. But then I am keeping the next node on each limb when it get's big enough and topping the rest. The same reason you do the manifold in the first place is to keep stuff even. Doing "Nebula's" version of an 8-top worked great, but my middle 4 tops were smaller than my end 4 every time. (2 runs, 4 plants). On the last one an end was growing way faster, so I topped those two. so I ended up with 10 tops, and the middle ones were the same size as the topped ones.

Any-whooooo, I think going for 8, or 16 tops is fine, but from 4 initially, and then keep topping. Testing that on the NL, and I don't know how many tops yet.

I just bolded and highlighted that part to think about! You'd have to wait for the roots to get established before trying, but that might be the experiment.

Stoner ideas are great if you can remember them... That is what makes this type of site so cool. Input welcome!

Since it is not like cloning shoots, you will keep that "paired" uniformity to the nodes, so technically it should work right?

And when you eventually top that one and re-root it... Damn! I may be on to something, because the timing for everything and when you flip might be a good rotation if you can keep it going.

You could select strains that you like to keep on hand, just keep one going. Like a mother plant, only different.

@McFrosticles - You will be fine. You could have let them them get twice as tall before you brazilled them though. A trick I have seen is to use low fluorescent lighting to get them to stretch a bit more when they are squatty like that. Less light = more stretch.
