There are 33 different levels of Freemasonry. Your friends are very low on the totem pole.

They aren't "levels". They are pursuits. No one mason of any pursuit is above or below any other. For instance, my uncle is a Shriner. I am a Knight Templar of the York Rite. There is no "level" difference between the two of us. We are both masons, nothing more. The pursuit you choose to follow has far more to do with your area of interest than anything else.
Frankly, I couldn't do what my uncle does. I do help them from time to time setting up and doing logistics for outings, but it's very, very difficult for me to be around those ailing children because I can't keep from crying. Literally. It simply breaks my heart to see some of them.
