Remote DWC Underground

Alight guys - I've got a question on Epsom salt. How much of this shit do I need to add? I've read over and over and over that 1 tablespoon per gallon is the recommended amount to add for DWC. My gut said this was too much but I added it anyway. Goddammit! My PPM shot from 580 to 1290. Planning to flush tonight and just use cali-magic instead. Also, why the f*ck does everyone seem to want to kill your plants by giving them way too much of everything? For example, I'm pretty sure noobs like me are burning the hell out of their plants every day by following the GH nute schedule.

I used to throw one table spoon for 15 gallons and never had a problem.

Glad the tinfoil helped a little. Been in that boat and every little bit helps.

You’d be surprised how much they can take even if they don’t actually need it. I think backing off their schedule by 30% is a good starting place especially if you are using epsome

Going into week 4 of veg from clones, wee bit of heat burn cause I was pushing them a little hard but just learning there limits, got them under 2 hi-par 630’s. That area is a 1.5 x 1.5m. Got couple of home brews in there pumping in the Co2. Little bit of trail and error at the moment but they seem to be loving it. For most part haha.

Nice setup. And good sized plants for only 4 weeks!

Yeah man, first grow so thought I would go the safer option with the coco coir and dtw. Looking at getting a live feed to my phone like yours!! That’s the next step! What camera / program do you use on your phone? Illegal down here in aus, so don’t want too much evidence

I'm just using an old Samsung S5 phone with this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pas.webcam&hl=en_US

I mounted a small aluminium heat sink and computer fan to the back of the phone to stop it from overheating and shutting down.

I also installed a dedicated wireless webcam, but the image quality on the phone is much better. The things I like about the wireless web cam are the wide angle view and night vision. But the color and video quality are shit.

Also, I realized last night that storing my big bottle of PH Up right next to my nutes is very a bad idea. 30ml of acid was not what I wanted to add. Nor did I want to flush the system three times in a week. You can see from the pic that the new growth is curling a bit - probably from all the shenanigans this week.

The rate of growth in DWC is nuts! It grew like 3 inches overnight.

Since it's starting to touch the wall, I'll be moving it to the center of res tomorrow. Also got a pulley so I can adjust the height of the light.

Following this!!! Great work.
I read it all and love that you were able to overcome the root rot. I've never lost a plant to it. But it's always a pain in Dwc. Growth makes it worth the extra effort. Are you still just using hydroguard? It seems to be working well.

Thank you! Yes, the hydroguard and lower temps are keeping the roots happy. The ppm is at 600 with equal parts of the GH trio. I'm using tap water run through a chlorine/cloramine filter which has a starting ppm of 130.

Some small rust colored spots are starting to appear on a few of the older leaves. Calcium deficiency? It might be time to boost the ppm up a bit. Fortunately my big jug of Calimagic arrived today. Also got some Armor Si and a 960gph air pump.

Still growing like mad. I'll have to switch to flower soon. Running out of vertical space. :)

Rust spots can be a few things in my short 1year experience :P
One thing I've taught meself. Is if it's growing leafs faster then they are going bad. And your nutrient regime is a solid one. Which yours is. They will be fine. You could defoliat 20-50% and tie it down level. Then let them straighten out and bam into flower. My 2c
PS shoot for 12" off the light. If it gets a little closer like 6" you should be fine (most strains)(light strength dependant) it's always better to shoot for further incase it suprises and triples

Thanks for the input. Took your advice on the defoliation and tie down. I also came up with a way to raise the light up another 8 inches. Probably let it grow one more week then switch to flower.

Wow it's looking great. I only have a few rounds indoors under my belt. So I'll let someone chime in from here. But I wouldnt wait a week bro. That things a beast and it could more then double upways and grow a bit outways also. You will get a feel for the strain after a grow and know how much to fill. But killer work man!!!!!!!

Thanks! I'm hoping to end up with the tops of the plant 12 to 18 inches from the light. As you can see from the wide angle, she's still got some room left. Thinking about switching when the tops are parallel with the top of the Bluelab monitor.

This plant is super thirsty. My top up meter is reading 0.7 gallons per day. Though, I do have a computer fan blowing on the water in the external res, so some of that is evaporation. PPM dropped from 810 to 720 since I added calimagic last Thurday. I just bumped it up to 890 and added 20ml of hydroguard.

The res temp has been climbing annoyingly high the last few days (~71.2°). I've got something I'm gonna try to get it back down. :)
