i still got my first magnetic 400 hps i bought in 1994 works fine


ive had 2 digital ballast die recenly
a 600w growlush died
and some other digital chinese crap 600w

expensive Led lasts 5-7 years max

with a hps u might get a new bulb every couple of years a lot cheaper over all

just keeps making weed

Top of the line leds will get at least 3-5 years of life and dont have a maximum life cycle. Hell the boards won’t even looses much efficiency etc when they do finally start degrading but that’s an easy 50000 hrs + of use.

Hps bulbs will last a decent amount of time but I’d recommend replacing them ever 2 or so cycles (every 6 months or so)

I suggest you start doing some research, figure out what type of system you want to run, soil, soilless, hydro (reticulated/dtw) (i would recomend soilless for starting out)
