frared Radiation Creates Leaf Temperature Gradients Down the Canopy
HPS bulbs emit a large infrared peak between 800nm and 900nm. This infrared peak significantly increases leaf temperatures at the top of the canopy, where most of the infrared light is absorbed. When examining the differences between leaf temperatures of plants grown in the same room under either HPS or LED lights, we will see significant temperature differences that infrared light causes.

In one of our studies, cannabis consultant Dr. Matt Wheatley measured the photosynthetic activity and internal leaf temperature of leaves at different distances from the light source. The internal leaf temperature measurements were very clear. The leaves of plants under LEDs did not show an increase for internal leaf temperature significantly above the ambient room temp at any distance between 2’ and 4’ from the lamp. In contrast, the leaves of plants under the HPS lamps showed a wide range of internal temperatures; the highest temps were apparent at the top of the canopy and lowest internal leaf temperatures were at the bottom of the canopy. This partially explains why HPS lamps produce top-heavy crops while LED lighting creates a more uniform canopy.

Since the rate of carbon fixation by RuBisCO is affected by leaf temperature and CO2 concentration, increasing the ambient temperature in LED-lit rooms will increase the rate of photosynthesis and plant growth.

Raise the Temperature in a LED Room
Based on scientific study and experimentation, Cannabis Consultant Dr. Matt Wheatley has found that an increase in the ambient room temperature of 5-7°C in LED-lit rooms relative to temperatures in HPS grow rooms is necessary to achieve similar internal leaf temperatures and plant growth rates as those experienced by plants in HPS-lit rooms. Keep in mind that as the ambient room temperature increases, the relative humidity decreases, and proportionate adjustments should be made to the relative humidity to adjust your Vapor Pressure Deficits.

About LumiGrow, Inc.
Yes. During veg I was running ambient room temp average of 28C and RH of 65% +/-. canopy LST was -1 average under ambient. PAR about 700-600 depending where the reading was taken on the footprint. So light board was about 85 cm above canopy Slightly elevated Co2 at around 700ppm. Got good results.

I'm not into figures n data
I just grow maybe I change my attitude somewhat when I've got more indoor runs under my belt
Me too, just used to look for a happy growing plant. I’m getting my head around the “science” part of maximising indoor so I’m keeping a few records now. Understanding VPD for plant growth stage is a good one Beernutz for indoor.

6 of one, half dozen of the other. A rooms just like a bigger tent ;)
Nah my mate has a 1400 x 1400 meter table puts 6, 600 watters over it an 1, 1000 watt and gets 6 or 7 pound.
An those buds are the most dense shit i've seen grown indoors. An the buds at the bottom are as dense as the tops.
An thats in a 3x3 meter room

He dont have the problems i have.

Hecdont have the problems i have.
Ok so he’s got to be using more of the room space for grow than just the table size yeah? 4600W is a ton of light for that room. Shake that mans hand they’re some very very impressive results.
What I meant by my comment was that it’s still an indoor space, doesn’t matter if it’s a tent or a room, the same applies.

Just seems to be easier in like a big room like that
Yeah he has a scrog table 2 x 2 meters.

Yeah im jyst saying eith tents u seem to have to have everything dialed in to

LED's arent for everyone but if used correctly, watt for watt, they will outyield HPS and CMH every time.

I personally dont think the HLG 550 is a 4x4 fixture. Its only 480w. I run 400w in a space half that size.
Ok mate. I tried as hlg claims, 1000watt hps replacement. It wast.
Im also not dropping another $1300 to $1500 to bump it up to 960 watts.

Added 315 cmh.
Was still shit.
I also run 600 watts in a 800x800mm tent

This post makes no sense.
Sorry mate i do my posting from a phone i have fat fingers.

Fellas when scrogging one plant has anyone unintentionally created too many bud sites and resulting in many small airy buds? This is my main concern at the moment, I don't wanna over-do it.

sog can fuck right off unless you have an automatic watering system, in my opinion.
Yep, sog would make it extremely hard to hand water if you’re like talking 1 pot per 6inch square of space. Great for F&D systems with the same pheno, and clone size when you put them in.
