DIY with Quantum Boards

This is also an excellent idea! And it means you still have light for the plants if one board goes out (not something that's likely to happen, but insurance is always nice to have).
That’s a good point, the insurance is nice to have, I think doing this or 1 board and then doing the same for a veg tent would be really good.

Did you use your qbs at low intensity or fluorescents for the seedling phase?
I have been using a HLG65 for veg for the last few years, and that is still too intense for tiny plants in my experience. The HLG65 isn't dimmable so I wind up having to shade my seedlings or clones that are still in the humidity dome, under giant fan leaves of a bigger plant or create some type of shade for them. If you get a dimmable driver with an external potentiometer it will solve this problem for you.

I'm in the process of upgrading my main veg area to 2 boards @ 40w each on a 80W driver, but am also making a smaller area for clones and seedlings that is using 4 of the EB strips on a 40W driver.

Also if no one has warned you yet, HLG QB's are addicting. Side effects may include dreaming about covering your ceiling in diodes.

And not staring at them hopefully

China doesn't give a shit if you have a patent or not. They steal from any company who has a successful product, even steal from each other. Half of the shit on ebay and Amazon are Chinese counterfeits. And they get away with it because there is no legal recourse. And NOT ONE LED product has UL certification, they just put stickers on and claim they are.

@lukio and couldn't hlg just setup a patent in china because they did in the us I think its more on them but if someone patented it first just sol

But they are using HLG's product name! They can call them whatever they want but using another company's product name/brand is theft of intellectual property. Quantum Board is HLG's property. Buying these things is like buying fake Rolex watches from the trunk of some shady character's car trunk. A thief is a thief is a thief!

What exactly was ripped off? Just curious, as far as I know in a capitalist system, one company leads the way with innovation, will be followed by others copying that design and tech, and competing with it, and then bringing the price down across the board. It is samsung who made an efficient diode. Therafter its just putting them on a board, and adding a driver and connecting the whole system. It would be silly to think that HLG, will be only company in all of future human history making Samsung Diode LED boards and beyond.

Question is did HLG get the product name patented or copy righted in China? Patents are geographical

Patent process takes time and resources that can be very difficult for startups and the tech is progressing so fast that a specific use patent could be obsolete and useless. Big corporations have R&D to work around also. Look at all the Murican corporations and individuals that are copying light designs.

Walmart has been having stuff they sell copied in other countries and then made under one of their “store brands” which replace original Murican products with their own branded Chinese products. Walmart is a huge driver to offshoring of production, real bastards.

That’s the problem for the little man, patents are so damn expensive, with lawyer fees and everything else they need to sell there product to gain some capital and by that time they may be screwed.

and whats up with this official release statement direct from samsung... This 3.10 Micro Moles talk?

Exactly what GreenGenes was saying. The H uses micromoles as an output measurement for the "Horticultural Community", while the B uses Lumens.
