Light winch

Anyone got any advice as to how to setup or design a winch to lower a light fixture that would be 4m long and 1m wide all at once without having to adjust several strings?

Cheers

Something like this?

If it's a 4 string hung light like a big LED, one could also use 4 pulleys and then connect all the lines from the light, thru pulleys and then all to a common line that when pulled raises all 4 lines at the same rate. Use a cleat to tie it off.

Yeah like those but they are expensive.

I may want the light to be very close to the ceiling at some point as I have a low ceiling. Connecting 4 together and then a central one adds a lot of unusable height right?

No. The pulleys are mounted to the ceiling, the ropes collect after the pulley horizontally. Use another pulley to direct the single rope down for pulling.

Trick is enough space between the collection point and the single rope pulley, so you have the slack to pull through to raise the light.

Got a picture I can see of this mate or what I should search google for? Completely confused by your description

I would have at least 6 points of contact with the fixture it will support and work smoother.

I just drew it with 2 lines for simplicity, you can have more.

I have seen setups where a large frame or bar holds a lot of lights and a cable system like I drew up is ran to a hand powered winch to raise the whole array.

Knot, ring, whatever you feel is sturdy and reliable.

Perfect thanks. And when you raise the light you just tie the slack off on a hook or something on your wall? So if you accidentally let go your plants will be crushed right? Just need to ensure it’s tied offf well

Also, I recommend swivel pulleys. This way you can direct the horizontal portion in any direction without binding.

Perfect thanks and this way I could get my light fixture literally 10cm away from the ceiling right?
Well the pulley height comes into play so smaller pulleys would be good. So long as the light hanger hardware isn't tall like on some HID reflectors that use the 6 inch V hooks.

Cheers I’ll see what the smallest hooks I can find are
