This is just my limited experience. I have bought soil that claimed ~6.5 or so. I stab the bag with my Apera, and it reads 5.1 I bought it anyways, because even FF reads low 5's. I will start off by taking a reading (not a slurry test or paper).. If I get around 5, I will feed in my mix at ~12 ph for 2 feedings. I will then take it down to 9 on the next one and monitor it. By the 4th feeding, Im getting high 5's, to low 6's... I will then level it out to ~6.5 by feeding in at 7.3ish I have never fed in at 6.5 because the soil im in will want to crash the PH as it dries out. So, I over shoot it a bit and it settles fine at 6.8 really wet, and 6.3-6.5 as it dries out.

Yep, the ph of the medium is off.

... and just a side note, if you are going to try this method (which does work), wait until its dry and ready to feed. Don't just water/feed it, but flush it!. If you have a 3 gallon pot, put 3-4 gallons in. Same for 5 or 7 gallon pot. pump it in!. You have to change the soil composition, and that takes a few high PH feedings especially if you are in a peat mix, or bark mulch mix. The bark and peat take alot to change the acidity in the soil to a more alkaline reading.... but if you watered/fed the day before, its still ok to do this, they'll take it. But dont wait for day 3-4, or 5, you might risk overwatering. Of course your RH, Temps, and airflow will dictate all of that.

This guy taught me alot!!!! ^^^^^^^^.... I would have lost my last run if it wasn't for his years of knowledge!
You did all the work my friend, I merely pointed you in the right direction. I am pleased that it went well and your run was indeed very sexy! The more crops you get under your belt, the more stuff you will run into and learn from. With your attention to detail and voracious appetite for knowledge I suspect great things are in the works.

Agreed, and a runoff collection system that can keep up is imperative. We can't be emptying individual saucers or the like.

Oh man!.. You definitely pointed me in the right direction... I was losing my mind trying to figure that last run out. And indeed I learn more and more with every run. I hope I've experienced the most important things to identify problems, but there's always new things to learn, and this is why we are all here is to help each other out! This 4th big run has been the best so far. I looked at the last one and thought "This was ok", but I learned alot form peeps like you and others here, and am happy with this one.... and yes! have a place to catch all that runoff for disposal! I know it seems like a waste of nutes, @groweraua, but it beats loosing your hard work!

Both of you guys have already taught me a lot. I think you both rule. I gotta say Ren is the man, and I'm really grateful he's on here spreading his knowledge.

For decades now I have been sharing what I know and constantly learning new stuff from others. I think that we wouldn't have come this far towards downright legalization without each other. Overgrow the government. Now that has snowballed and gained momentum such that it's only logical the federal government will soon follow the lead of the states and probably over regulate the hell out of the most over regulated industry in existence, at least in some states. That is why it is important to keep sharing the knowledge so that people will always be able to grow their own medicine or choose who grows it for them.
