One last thing to note so that you understand all the costs, since it sounds like this is your first setup.

The HLG100 is a complete fixture that comes with driver and everything. You just pretty much plug it in.

The QB648 boards are for DIY setups and require a heatsink, plus a driver (@$50-70 depending on various factors), plus a few other items such as power cord, m3 mounting screws, wagos/connectors, connecting wire, and hanging clips/ropes (@ $40-50 depending if you need them shipped etc). You then need to assemble it all yourself. You can either buy everything individually, or pay a little extra to HLG and get everything all at once.

Honestly in light of everything going on I think just ordering the DIY kits from HLG is a better option especially for someone who has never built a light before. You only save a few bucks doing it yourself. Also ordering the various parts you will need even off amazon is now taking forever. I just ordered some m3 screws and other stuff I needed for a new fixture and shipping time is 2-3 weeks.
The648 is $129

For veg/flower. I don't have 750 bucks to spend on lights. I wish I did. It weird that the 288's can handle the same power as the 648. on HLG site their both the kits (288's and 648's) run off the same 240H driver. I was assuming it could handle more power. If not why is there more diodes? coverage and efficiency?
Maybe qb96 would be more price effective for your diy when they come back in stock? 70$ a pop 4 would get your 4x4 where it needs to be, check or_gro grow on that subject has a great info for how to even the light out

Two of the qb144 v2 four packs ($125 x 2) and 2 HLG240-C1750 ($65 x 2) would be pretty sweet. And no heatsinks needed.

Sorry for blowing up this thread, 3 spliffs of Lemon Lime Punch sativa pheno and some blueberries and my brain is off to the races.

One other thing I thought of @bigbudz00 that might help clear up any confusion. I think hopefully this might help someone else in the future too.

The HLG100 is a premade 100W lamp fixture that uses a QB120 board.

The QB# is referring to the number of diodes on the board. So a QB120 has 120 diodes, QB132 has 132, QB288 has 288, etc.

I think perhaps there was some confusion that the QB648 was a 650W light.

The HLG650R is the premade 650W lamp fixture that uses 4 QB648 boards to cover a 5x5 in flower.

This is pretty much my first decent setup. I have grown under a shitty bluple light. I would like to step up my game.I would like to spend max around $200 and for it to be LED.

Thanks

look @hybridway2 ...i'll be honest

i read the first five words of your reply before figuring out that measuring the temperature of my desk was more important.
Just proves my point about how close-minded you are. Stephen found it interesting enough to respond to. Seeing how i was primarily addressing him, that's all that mattered to me. Deffinetly not your thoughts on my post.

I missed the last few posts sorry. This is my first time on here. I was originally going to build a light with 4 qb 120's on amazon for $100.00 with a meanwell 240-c2100A.Then I started looking into the 648's.
That would definitely be cost effective way to do it, I forgot about the qb120 4 packs and that price on Amazon is better than HLG's site.

240W is only going to cover a 2x4 though, but since you are on a budget just doing half the tent for now wouldn't be a bad idea. Then get another light to cover the other 2x4 half later.

If you are going to run a 4x4 get the 120’s for $100 then grab a hlg-320h-c2800a, then add another light in a few months when you have more cash, at that point you only need another 160 watts
for the additional 160 watts add a 135W QB V2 Rspec LED Kit

I agree, as well as the rest of his lights that lack knowledge of the value of mixed NMs roll to max plant growth. SF has that knowledge, but ignorant people just don't get it

The QB 144 V2 require a heatsink such as a pin heatsink to operate.

HLG states that the "board will overheat and fail without a heatsink".

QB 120 and QB 132 do not require heatsinks as I am sure you know.

Damn you are right. I didn't realize that. I assumed they were just next generation from qb120 > qb132's > etc..

$185 for 320W of QBs? :o

[EDIT] those QB120s can only take 70W each @X6xsilverx6X. x 4 is 280W max? I say stick with the 240W driver and just do 1/2 the tent for now.

where can you get the driver for $85? cheapest i found from the venders is 110$
Digikey has 23 of the HLG-320H-C2800A in stock for $83.33. But like I noted above I think 4 QB120 will max out at 280W so maybe not the most cost effective option.

I have been using OnlineComponents.com for my driver orders. They are sometimes a little cheaper ($87 for this one tho and out of stock). They are in Phoenix so even when I choose cheapest shipping it gets to me in 2-3 days.

Ahh I think I was meaning after shipping and fees, digikey finally stop charging tarrifs?
