regular seeds vs feminized seeds

Starting my 3rd indoor grow I am beginning to think that feminized seeds lack the vigor starting out in life, as opposed to regular seeds. The fem seeds are smaller, lighter in color, less markings and designs on em, and less waxy looking. PITA to get these fems growing with vigor, compared to REGULAR seeds Ive used before.

Am I imagining this? Or is this true in most cases?

don't know if that's true or not but fems are all i use. with my luck, i'd have all males with reg seeds.

I've never noticed a difference, even in between fem seeds I made myself, and clones from the plant I made the seeds from (which started as reg seeds).

Looking at my OLD Greenpoint seeds they are TWICE as big as the fems, they gave me no probs starting out. My fems have one set of leaves in 5 days, the regs had 2 sets. Im guessing yield will be smaller.

Well, it's definitely not true for me. All my seeds have varied in size, including seeds from the same plant with the same father.
All the feminized seeds I've had have been medium to large and quick to sprout. The feminized seeds that I've used grew just as fast as my regs, (except the males, ime those things pop out and shoot up). I have two seeds right here, f2 reg crosses and one is about twice the size of the other and they were pulled from the same bud. I have also not had any issues with the plants from small seeds, in fact they seemed to sprout fastest of all.
The biggest seeds I've had all had really thick shells, took forever to sprout, and some needed help. All reg seeds.
That said I usually go for reg seeds, as most of my seeds come from friends. Why pay when you can trade?

i’ve done side by side comparisons of feminized photos and regular-seed females and never really noticed a difference, except the usual difference you’d see between two specific plants anyway....no difference in vigor, size, yield etc and honestly the femmed plant was better structure and stronger. It all depends on genes and environment.

I've got 8 strains of fems from 4 diff breeders, all of em are smaller and less colorful. It could be I germed WITHOUT a heating mat the first few days, on the vigor part. Thats likely my own fault.

I just hauled out my last fem seed, saving it for the summer, and compared her to some of my other seeds. My (auto x sativa) x sativa seeds are all grey and speckled, my indica x sativa seeds are brown and black kinda dappled with a few stripes, and my indica seeds are brown and lightly striped, including the fem.
The one oddball is ((auto x sativa) x (indica x sativa)) x (indica x sativa), and it's brown and speckled.

By the way, I'm not trying to argue the point, you've just got me interested.

Choosing the most perfectly round seeds in a pack of regs and keeping germination temps warm but not HOT got me 3 for 3 on regs being female last run I did. This time I bought just fems.

Never ran regs but I’m about too. Anything I should pay attention to? Thanks for the help in advance. (Hoping I didn’t make a mistake buying regs)..

It may have something to do with how old the stock you have on hand is. Seeds are viable for a real long time but not forever. I was buying seed that would not germ; found out they were just very old beans.
Found a better seed bank that sells fresh seeds; pop off every time. A lot of popular seed banks; especially those in Europe...yes talking bout you attitude....sell old stock. Especially the top ten “hottest”or whatever; avoid any strains on a list. These are the ones they want to get rid of. The freshest seeds are the ones you bred yourself; they stay viable for years.

I will never run a reg seed in my main flowering tent again. This grow I lost 1/4 plants, last grow I lost half my fucking crop. It’s not worth it.
What do u mean u lost them? Regs or fems they should be just as easy as each other to grow.
I have gotten hermies more with fems.
Each have their uses. I prefer to run regs now and then clone off them.

I’m pretty sure he meant that once he pulled the males out of his garden his plant count was one half, or three quarters, of what he started with.
He clearly hadn’t run regular seeds before and didn’t realize that is just how it goes with those.
