Samsung F Strip Build

As I said, I'm not very inclined with most things electrical, but if my attempts with googling were successful, I came up with roughly 60 or so watts per L09 strip. This would allow me to run 7 or 8 of those off one MW 480 or even 600 driver? If I lucked out and got that somewhat right, would this work for my needs? I was about to shell out quite a bit on a prebuilt setup, but this thread really got me thinking I could really tailor it to my needs going DIY.
I would recommend diy strips any day if you have the capability.

The less power that you run each strip, the more efficient and cooler they run. It's always better to run more strips at lower power if possible, with additional benefit of more light spread.

That being said I think 10 strips on a meanwell 480 would be better. Also as I mentioned earlier the XLG lineup from meanwell is priced cheaper, so you could use 2 of XLG-240-H-AB running 5 strips each. There is also the LRS-200-48, or the mack daddy HLG-480h-48A

The 480 was the one I was really looking hard at based on alot of the positive feedback on here. My biggest issue was understanding how to figure out how many strips to run. Seeing the different numbers like 1380 milliamps and 52.1 volts for those strips and 48 volts and 480 watts for the driver had my head spinning. The idea of 10 of those strips across a 48-54 inch span sounds about like my best option given the low cost. I figured I'd order maybe 20 and have plenty of spares. I really appreciate the advice!

With any light build, you are going to have a cost/efficiency curve.

At the higher end of efficiency, you will have to increase the cost substantially to get any sort of efficiency increase. The influx L09's are priced very well at $5 a strip right now but the efficiency is also lower than the F series strips.

The F series are not the most efficient strips on the market either, so it all depends on what you are looking to build and what matters to you.
Even with more efficient strips available, not one of them has the light density that can compete with a 4ft double row f series for photon output.
You need about 4 bridgelux gen 2s to match one.

Amazing build, iPerculate! It seems like your build inspires a lot of people )))) Now I'm thinking about it too, lol ))) One question, how do you think, are strips better than COBs? Thanks

fixture was mounted to the 80cm tent - just in time for flowering. ordered 10 more of those strips, thinking of side lights for my bigger tent.. will update with pics of the build once i'll start

Danny, looks like a sweet build. So you are running more strips at lower amps for less heat? I would like to copy your build(x2) to cover my 5x10 flower room. I have been reading this thread start to finish. All numbers get your head spinning. Wait maybe it was that last bong rip?

thanks! you got it, more coverage and less heat. personally, i would run them on more amps for a 5x5 or more strips per fixture.my other tent is 5x5 and has around 800w-900w of cobs and boards (and now strips too- added 2 strips on a 100w\2a driver)

it has a meanwell 600 mounted in the middle, with one cable going to each side (the 600 comes with 2 output cables).

I use a straight edge for my extrusions, probably costs me about $5.50 per leg. (but I am buying wholesale on account of using more aluminium than the large local retailers). the top and bottom is powder-coated aluminium too
Make me one

Good heavens!! Why on earth is your fixture half way to the moon??? You can easily hang those strips 10-15 centimeters from the canopy!!!
No, I can't. 10-15 would be too close to my taste, if I can I like to keep close to 30-40cm.
I see you are concerned, 5 exclamation marks and all , no worries - they're getting plenty of light, even from down there.
