I program control systems for a living, and Programmed a system to automate my lights and humidity based on stage or harvest. I’m tempted to just buy a used 0-10V dimming module so I can control it programmatically. I could do weird shit like slowly raise the brightness instead of them just coming on that at full tilt.View attachment 4522441
You have to do sunrise and sun sets if you can do that. Man I would love this so much.

Just a thought, you might wanna flip your schedule to be lights on 9pm-9am rather than during the day. Saves a bit on electricity to not have all your wattage pulling at peak hours every day. I know i've always done 8pm-9am using FarRed/730nm to put em right to sleep at lights off, come 9am.

Just a thought, you might wanna flip your schedule to be lights on 9pm-9am rather than during the day. Saves a bit on electricity to not have all your wattage pulling at peak hours every day. I know i've always done 8pm-9am using FarRed/730nm to put em right to sleep at lights off, come 9am.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it screws me, but I like to be able to work in the tent while the lights are on. I work from home so it’s nice to be able to care for the plants pretty much anytime during the day.

It's easy to do sunrise, sunset i have this on my setup on three of my lights. Use two programmable drivers from inventronics, download their app and buy their mul2 device and Bob's your uncle. I used the vesta dual channel strips, one driver on the 2700k channel and the other on the 5000k channel.

That looks pretty cool!

I would be doing it more or less just to have them slowly ramp up when they come on, and slowly ramp down when they turn off, but I would already have everything I need (minus the 0-10V dimmer modules) and it would take me about 5 minutes to write the logic. If I really wanted to, I could follow circadian cycles, but I think that’s going a little crazy, and I would need to do what you did and mix in other channels.

For the dimmer module inventronics has it covered, you can adapt any 0-10 volt driver with their tdn device to do the same thing if you didn't want to use inventronics drivers. Still need the mul2 and app/software which is free to download it before purchasing to screw around with settings.

I would go with Crestron dimmer modules. They would be native to my system and I can get used ones pretty easily. If I went with theirs I would have to get their API to communicate with it though my system.

Don't know how many of the UK aluminium vendors are currently open, due to corona. But they offer lot of rectangular box tube options for less than dedicated heatsink profiles go for.
Thickness is good for a sink source, but area is important. If you were willing to sacrifice the table it could be of use. Make sure to mount without airgaps, see a lot of people on here using blue thermal tape to good effect. Your L09 strips look like they use FR4 which has higher thermal resistance, so good connection between the aluminium and the strip is important. Watch your temps as you turn it up./ strip. I use a strip of 2"x 0.125"x 45"
I use the 44" double rows as outriggers on my Vero arrays. 4 of them share a 320-48B driver so they're only running @ 75-80 watts. I use a strip of 2"x 0.125"x 45" aluminum for each F strip. I sourced them from a local welding/metal supply house. At 80% of nominal rated power, they barely get over 100 degF. I've run them @ 120w/strip as an emergency fix for a week and they never got over 55 degC.

So the L09 strips are rated at 1.38 mA. Do you guys think running one strip full on with a 1.4 mA driver would be alright? If I can find a place to put it, I might wire one up underneath my pickup truck to keep rats out of the engine. I have (40) 1.4 mA drivers gathering dust.

Ok...who just bought all but 1 of the remaining SI-B8U521560WW‎ strips from DigiKey today? I just went to check out and got the last one but the other 7 I ordered are on backorder. That's what I get for hesitating before checking out! :wall:

After seeing this post, I figured i'd ask you guys a couple things. I'm not very knowledgeable of electrical components, but I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I had considered an HLG or Timber setup for my 2.5'l x 5'w x 6.5'h tent, but this made me reconsider. I am thinking of building my own rig now and buying 15 or 20 of the SL-B8V7N90L1WW for 4.92 usd each. Or would it be better to wait for much more expensive SI-B8U521560WW strips to restock. I'd really like to get the most bang for my buck. I've been at it for a couple years with a quarter of cheap led lights from Amazon. I've had fair results with just GH Flora Trio nutes and DWC and a couple water only organic soil grows, but I realize it's time for an upgrade and this seems like the logical choice. Any thoughts on the strips, possible layouts or driver choices would be really appreciated.

Finished the 2nd influx board, gonna clean up the wiring on the 1st one and get them both hung up as soon as I get some more rope hangers. Also put together a little potentiometer and watt meter combo thing in an old cigar box. Hoping to get the cabinet all dialed in soon.
I’d get some grommets in those holes if I were you. I’d be worried that thin metal may dig into the wire jacket over time and cause a short.

With any light build, you are going to have a cost/efficiency curve.

At the higher end of efficiency, you will have to increase the cost substantially to get any sort of efficiency increase. The influx L09's are priced very well at $5 a strip right now but the efficiency is also lower than the F series strips.

The F series are not the most efficient strips on the market either, so it all depends on what you are looking to build and what matters to you.

As I said, I'm not very inclined with most things electrical, but if my attempts with googling were successful, I came up with roughly 60 or so watts per L09 strip. This would allow me to run 7 or 8 of those off one MW 480 or even 600 driver? If I lucked out and got that somewhat right, would this work for my needs? I was about to shell out quite a bit on a prebuilt setup, but this thread really got me thinking I could really tailor it to my needs going DIY.
