Samsung F Strip Build

Easy people. I have been looking for a decent heatsink and managed to find 1 that's sellimg some good looking heatsink buts it's $7 each and because it's from China it's $140 shipping. I have 12 strips I want to make a couple of lights so I need 12 of them. I'm from UK and having about of trouble.

I do have this old table that is in the shed and that's aluminium and as in the photo shows it's not that thick. I also have eyed up my ladder lol but that would be the last result I think but I think it would act as a bloody good heat sink. It's just alot of effort to clean it all up..

Anyways if someone has a link to heat sink shop in UK please let me know. Thanks

Don't know how many of the UK aluminium vendors are currently open, due to corona. But they offer lot of rectangular box tube options for less than dedicated heatsink profiles go for.
Thickness is good for a sink source, but area is important. If you were willing to sacrifice the table it could be of use. Make sure to mount without airgaps, see a lot of people on here using blue thermal tape to good effect. Your L09 strips look like they use FR4 which has higher thermal resistance, so good connection between the aluminium and the strip is important. Watch your temps as you turn it up.

Yeah thanks.i would be running them fairly soft. It's looking like I might use the table, first I need to get it cleaned up and I have just ordered some of that blue thermal tape online. Is that stuff ok? I'm in contact with some Chinese on Ali baba and I'm waiting.f for qoutes. I have also found some nice looking box pcb led profiles for lights. The picture I have attached is wide enough to have 2 led strips on the and might opt for a clear screen and not frosted. What's your thoughts on them? They also do them wide enough for just 1 of the led strips. I'm liking these tho.

Hi. Lots on the forums here are happy with the blue thermal tape. That picture you posted, is it wide enough to take two L09 strips side by side? I bet a lot of guys on here would be interested in that, if the price was right. It looks really nice.

Do you have an industrial supplier center in your area? Going to a steel supplier direct, they will have aluminum. I was faced with buying angle aluminum for $12-15 a foot but found it at steel supplier for $2.27 per foot. Also picked some up on kijiji for $1 per foot

I've used both thermal tape and thermal adhesive, while the thermal adhesive is good in theory it's brutal trying to get consistent contact. I had much better results with thermal tape, way more consistency in temp readings and way easier to install.

Here's half of my influx build. I salvaged a couple of these aluminum bases from some lights that were in the scrap pile. Going to run 2 sets of 4 with 1 HLG 320 in a 4x3x2 cab for flower. Would have liked to spread the strips out more, but that'll have to wait until I can source some more aluminum. I'll share some pics of the whole setup once I put them in the cab.

I'm gearing up to build my own light with the SI-B8U521560WW strips for my 4x4. Is 6 strips really enough for flower in a 4x4? I was thinking of going up to 8 strips, which would get me closer to the 480W range. Does anyone happen to know the model number for a MeanWell driver that would be able to drive the 10A it would require? Or have people had great results using only 375W of power with these strips?

Would it be the HLG-480H-48A or the HLG-480H-48AB? It looks like the only difference between the two is the "AB" model can have an external potentiometer?

All I know about your questions is about the driver having a external potentiometer is the only difference. I only know that because I had the choice when buying a 240w driver. I'm new to all this and just learning.Hello

That should be a good amount of light with both of them. This is a question to all builders about this set up, will this sort of a heatsink be ok for 4 strips? Would you have to run then softly so that it doesn't get 2 hot? I'm only asking as I'm trying to locate some heat sinks for my build and just trying to get a feel for the sort of heat sinks that are acceptable. If you or anyone can help. Thanks

Hiya .. we have people around that does this sort of thing but due to the covid 19 everywhere is closed.

I definitely won't be running them very hard in this configuration.

I have a few tents so 320w is enough for this light, but I may expand on this light in the future. As you can see earlier in the thread I hung a 260W RSpec vertically to give some supplemental also, dimmed all the way down.

For 8 strips at 10A, i would use 2 of XLG-240-H-AB drivers at 4 strips each. Parallel

Driver choice is a bit subjective as there are so many options, others may chime in as well. You can use the HLG-480h-48A also. Have fun with the build and keep us updated.

I’ll have to double check, but I’m pretty sure that the price for two XLG-240-H-AB showed as a lower cost than single HLG-480H-48A. It’s probably better to split it up anyways so all the lights don’t depend on one power supply.

XLG lineup is priced well. You will need to connect external pot if you go for the AB.

I program control systems for a living, and Programmed a system to automate my lights and humidity based on stage or harvest. I’m tempted to just buy a used 0-10V dimming module so I can control it programmatically. I could do weird shit like slowly raise the brightness instead of them just coming on that at full tilt.
