Germinating seed in soil

Lost a GSC the other day because misting was only resting on top layer and not absorbing I had to soak my soil for it to retain moisture now im on day 2 of another waiting for it to sprout...

The guy that told you to water with a spray bottle is an idiot. Only time Ive ever used a spray bottle was when I was saving some very crispy clones. Water never touches the leaves of my plants. The important thing is to just make sure you are only watering around the root zone when you plant seed in a big ass pot.

I do start my girls with a clear dome over them, just until a couple days after they have sprouted.

You let your soil get to dry in between watering I'm assuming. Also once is sprouts I no longer use a spray bottle and switch to a small cup so I can water around the base of the seedling. I do apologize if you lost it do to my instruction.

When you plant direct into soil be it in a starter pot or jiffy pod you want to keep the soil moist not wet. I dont ever let it dry to the point the soil cracks or even looks dry.

That's some peppers I'm starting and just used the cup to water. Around the edges of the pot is dry to dry and the center is moist as a example.

2nd pic is some PK seeded directly into soil.
That was sprayed 2 hours ago. Notice even moisture no dry soil on the edges not over moistened. I may spray them again today depending on how much they dry in the sun.

I am no idiot my friend.
Using a spray bottle before they sprout is 100% fine and a good way to get a even watering. And once they sprout I no longer use the bottle.

You likely pop your beans before planting I assume.
The topic was germination in soil and for that you want constant even moisture. Whether you achieve that via spray bottle or careful watering is no different.

Dont simply walk in saying he's an idiot and wrong. Because I'm not on both points further more at no point did I tell anyone to spray there plants it was always about keeping soil moist not watering a sprouted seedling.

I'm not here to argue with you just dont be so damn dismissive everyone is here to share and learn. If you methodology is different then mine share it. I may try starting in there final pot rather then a starting pot.

Oh no totally not your fault. I bought a mix of soil from a organics place locally made and I didnt know it needed to be thoroughly wetted. So by me misting I was purely wetting the top nothing else. I replanted and a day and a half later I had a new healthy gsc sprout. Shocked by the sprout time maybe it knew I lost its sister lol.

I apologize I may have been a little more offended then I should have been.
My logic being I can get a more even watering if I use a spray bottle I could achieve the same with regular bottle of water just not the way I was taught I guess.

Its all good i was a little harsh. I think the guy got confused and was using a spray bottle after he had a good size tap root and wasnt getting water down to the root. I just use a bottle with holes in the cap so i can usually get a pretty controlled amount of water.

I go straight to soil. No soaking or anything. I keep it somewhat wet around the seed the first day or 2 and then let it just stay damp. That has the same effect as soaking in a cup and then putting in a paper towel with the benefit of the seed already being where it's going to be growing for awhile. Seeds need moisture to germinate. It just makes sense to provide that moisture and germinate them directly in the soil like any other seed. Could you imagine corn farmers germinating 100's of acres of corn seeds in paper towels?

I use a sprayer but a pump sprayer that you can adjust the spray from fine mist to a steady stream with seedlings.

Never soak a seedling until runoff. Damp is what you're looking for not wet. 100% germination. But they were seeds I made so they were good seeds to begin with. The only seeds I have had problems with germination were seeds I purchased.

I pop my seeds straight in the soil on my 3rd grow. The first grow I had with 4 autos using the paper towel method and had 100% but I’m got tired of the waiting game for the tap root. I’d rather wait and watch it pop the soil..more fun that way lol. I’m on day 2 since planting and have the humidity between 85-90, running the lights 24/7. The bulbs are from Home Depot, their new grow lights and they’re each 30w which is PLENTY to get them started. I have a 20 ml syringe and use a full one over top and just around the seed after the cover it weigh soil. Only planting 1/2” down and lightly cover. Day 2 (this morning) I lightly dowsed them with ~10ml and now I will just wait until they sprout.

Straight in soil for me. 5 days and I got a sprout. So far 4/4 in my grows.
